Awesome review! I was hesitant to install this one and hearing your review made my decision final. I believe people tend to (either willfully or not) misinterpret Serana's character into something far more seductive or lustful when that's far from who she was originally. I suppose it just isn't my cup of tea, but this easily could've been it's own character without stepping on established canon in my opinion.

Thank you for the awesome in depth review on this! As I said on the last video, I am watching this to see what I am missing. Your summary at the end makes me feel better for having turned down putting this in my load order. Simply not my cup of tea (whether vanilla or modded Serana) I am afraid in my game, she will remain at Ft. Dawnguard with Isran and company. Technically a great mod, worth the accolades it has... just not what I need for my world. But in any event, thank you for everything this year, Happy Holidays to ya, and cannot wait to watch what comes next year!

I really loved this mod, but man...when Serana told me that she used a calm spell on me when we met in the crypt, it hit me hard. I know it's not canon, but I genuinely felt betrayed, as if it was literally an irl thing. I just told Serana to part ways and then spent a long time without calling her back

I'll say it again, i do think this mod is impressive just by all of the amount of "stuff" it adds. Especially with all of the mods that are compatible with it. But i feel that at some point the mod author lost sight of what makes Serana the character we WANTED to romance. We didn't just love her cause she was hot (by Skyrim standards), we liked her cause she had a bunch of layers to her and was strong despite her messed up past. It just feels like after the romance stuff was added it went hard into "girlfriend simulator". Like thats perfectly fine, but it's just not for me. There is a mod called "Serana relationship revamped" that seems to be going for a more vanilla approach, but it's still a work in progress as of writing this.

@@theicyphoenix_7745 Yeah the AI voice they use is the more primitive one, but the mod author is insistent on using it. And I am not sure if they plan to give it a proper voice. But considering as George said in this video, Laura Bailey has become associated with this character for many players, it's probably a good compromise.

Yeah I think SDA works great if you aren’t looking to romance her. The cringey romance writing is really my only gripe with this otherwise fantastic mod, so I usually just don’t pursue a relationship with her.

I feel like this Serana is an entirely different person from vanilla. I could not imagine the original saying most of these lines. She seems very horny, and I feel like something similar happened with the Kaidan Extended -mod. I thought it would be more true to the original Kaidan 2, but (in my opinion) the mod made him super horny and loud in comparison to the original. He also drinks a lot more. (In my opinion) I guess all mods are a hit to some and a miss to others. I can still appreciate the work that people put in them, and I think the VA for modded Serana did a great job. :D I also like her tavern interactions, even if some of the contents are not my cup of tea.

Ik this comment is kinda old, but I 100% agree with you about the Kaidan mod. Tried downloading immersive features and he is basically Bishop just a little less rapey/sexist. Weird. Having said all that, there's a new mod called "Kaidan Workshop" coming out soon that is going to be MUCH more faithful to the vanilla. The first release will be a simple revoice with some added features like bug fixes/cool things like the ability to nerf his stats or boost him, (since the OG VA said he only wanted to work with the IM and EE ppl) but they plan to add some quest commentary later on as well as adding in content that was scripted by Liv but not released/stuck. I've been to their discord and it all seems super promising :)

I think you'd prabably be better off going the friendship route, turning off the romance at the beginning of the mod, at least that's what I did and it doesn't sound half as awkward as these lines. It's more like going to tavern for relaxation every once a while, talking about family and future and current events, making fun of each other, etc, more natural that way.

Wow this is much appreciated! I am in the midst of a full playthrough and had this mod installed but hadn't gotten to Dawnguard yet. I am fully in sync with your thoughts on the character and based on this review I uninstalled the mod. It does look like a very well done mod by a talented modder but maybe not for me. Thank you!

I love this mod. I do believe that Serena should have had a romance and I also believe over time she would have become more bubbly or joking because she trust. I give SDA a 9.5/10 to be honest. I can't wait to see where they take it. I hope we get another update before the release of Ash

To be fair, im pretty sure these two "horny" lines do make some sense given how they extrapolated her character. They played into elements of her being really kept from the world and only knowing about books. It seemed to me she was quoting bad romance novels like an a character like this might awkwardly do. But yeah it certainly is a change. And you gave a very fair review

I feel like the relationship and “horny” stuff makes sense as she was trapped with no real relationship for 1000s of years it’s basically your typical daddy issues which she would have once she gets romantic. The main issue is it should of been done slightly slower and without the 4th wall breaking

Feels like serana in this mod is a bit to bubbly for a vampire with such family issues. having her be more guarded and closed off might have been more interesting. maybe see her doing some feeding/killing as she is a vampire.

i love how at almost every moment you say to yourself "what have i done i shouldnt have installed this mod" xD altho there are quite a few cringe lines,she is more talkable than regular serana,so its doable i do want serana to have more dialogue options,and maybe to have sweet romance options too,but the sexual stuff is waaaay over the top im still going to keep using the mod tho,despite not being my cup of tea,its stil the only mod that expands on serana in a huge dialogue amount

George missed the mark with this " Review". Serana is expanded to comment on the Entire game. Not just one DLC. She has commentary on the main quest, the Dark Brotherhood, EVERYTHING beyond Dawnguard. And he just skips to the end like a spaz. HE should have played it from the start ffs.

You and everyone here missed the mark. The mod isnt just Dawnguard. THEY reworked the dialogue FOR THE ENTIRE GAME. Not just one DLC. When i do my Skyrim vids George, I dont care about views, i dont care how many vids of mine have the Main quest in them, i do it for the mods to be played ALONG side n o matter what. This is the one time you should played through the entire Main quest with this installed. Not just Dawnguard. X____X

I understand why a follower of the "King of Rape" is horny. Vampires in folklore are indeed very um... horny. The vanilla Serana says that turning someone is rather intimate for vampires and in some examples outside Skyrim, sex is involved in the making of a vampire. I do agree that it is too corny at times, though.

As someone who uses this mod constantly (I like this new Serana, plus Kerstyn’s singing is fantastic and serves doubly as background noise, instead of just normal nature sounds, and her passive buffs are good); I don’t think it’s as horny for it to be the main drawback? Now this could be because I am aroace and a lot of signs fly over my brain (yes I do still do the romance because I find it cute at times, even if I don’t get the romantic aspect fully), and those times where’s she’s flat out asking for sex is like “oh, ok”. I kid you not, it took me MONTHS to get “What, I’m your surrogate “blood supply”” was referring to. MONTHS. AND IVE PLAYED THROUGH DAWNGUARD WITH HER MULTIPLE TIMES.

While I admire the technical aspect of this mod, I must agree that this mod wasn't for me. I love playing a vampire in Skyrim and would loved to have an in-depth vampire follower to join my adventures. However, this version of Serana just sounds way too immature for my liking. Still, its an amazing work and the voice acting is very good, even if I'm not particularly a fan of some of the writing.

I feel bad for you George. You are enduring this for us as we do appreciate it. We have the choice to watch this or not. I have to say it's hard to watch. The amount of things added to her is very impressive but I personally feel its a bit much and over the top for me. Almost cringe worthy I think I watch more for your quips at her more than anything else. That and to support your content. Keep up the great work.

Yeah, I've come to realize this mod wasn't for me the longer I used it, and I lost interest, despite all the new dialogue Marty and Kerstyn are planning. That doesn't take away from what they've accomplished with SDA, & I love them both for it. Kerstyn has an amazing voice talent, Marty is fantastic with the Creation Kit, & I hope his new follower mod does very well. There was a new Khajiit follower called Sa'chil that came out on Nexus last week, I recommend you try it alongside all the other custom followers you plan to review. The content and incredible voice acting by mod author Scarundy is amazing, hope you get to check her follower out. Merry Christmas, George!

I really appreciate the work done in this mod but my god the writing is really bad in some parts. The whole narrative of “your love helped me recover from being raped and now I can have sex and it’s wonderful because you’re so great” is just… ew. From what I remember when she talks about the ceremony she says how horrible it was that Molag bal used her for her body and she meant nothing to him. Like, seriously? THAT’S what she comments on? Not that fact that she was defiled and destroyed, her control taken from her, her life shattered? Just that he didn’t care? What did you expect? It’s so poorly phrased. Like all of what I said is implied but it’s not written with the respect or space it needs. The dialogue is also just so stilted and unnatural. I really admire the effort and work put into this but the writing and voice acting is just not for me. Kerstyn did a wonderful job acting but some of the direction just makes the bad writing stand out even more.
