Belgrade's latest anti-Milosevic protest turned from a traffic jam into a people jam as tens of thousands of people abandoned their cars and walked into the city centre on Wednesday (8/1).
Serbian riot police blocked traffic in the downtown area, preventing opposition supporters from driving their cars. The standoff caused a massive traffic jam, as supporters started abandoning their cars to walk to the protests.
Huge crowds of supporters flooded into the city for a rally in the Republic Square. So great was the jam that even Serbian Renewal Movement leader Vuk Draskovic had to abandon his vehicle and walk towards his supporters who were massing near the square.
