As father of 2, I have the utmost respect for Richard’s relentless dedication to his kids and planning their journey to greatness at such a young age.

He made a good point about athletes earning money with no education or plan. If you have no respect for money and how best to invest, save and use it, then you being a millionaire just because you're a successful athlete might not end well. Its like many of those boxers; they earnt 100's of millions, so much more than the average person would earn in a lifetime, yet they some how end up bankrupt.

How wonderful. Serena and Venus are so fortunate. They are family-oriented, spiritually-devout, humorous, kind, highly skilled, intelligent, and multi-talented. And they have their parents, in part, to thank for bringing them up to have those marvelous attributes. Richard Williams is a genius! And their mom, Brandi, is great, too!

Not sure why Richard continue to suggest that they were poor. They had way too many mouths to feed. Yes. That was their choice. Richard earned 60,000 a year and his wife was a registered nurse. No. They were not poor. It makes for a good story though.
@luwakw016 жыл бұрын
Vincent Oyemayowa Sanwo but they lived in Compton. My parents came from Nigeria and we weren't poor... but we lived in inner city NYC in the 90s, and i had no choice but to attend poor- performing public schools with low income black kids, because even tho mom was a nurse and dad was a teacher, we still couldn't afford to move into a better neighborhood with better performing public schools. 1. starting from scratch, we simply didn't have enough $$ to move into a white middle-class neighborhood (those homes cost around $750,000, and are mostly 1-family homes, so u can't even rent out a portion to help pay the mortgage). Most middle class white families had the benefit of generational wealth that allowed them to inherit their homes, and 2. red lining was rampant in real estate. Ppl didn't rent or sell to blacks, and there were ZERO integrated neighborhoods. A middle class income can help sustain a family, but it's not enough to make that initial home purchase. you'd have to be upper middle class to pull that off. So even if you make money, if you can't get out the low income neighborhood, you're still subjected to all the obstacles that arise from living in a poor area (insecurity, subpar education, no afterschool programs = bad crowds of kids/ rampant gang culture, drugs in the community...)

?! Dusty Boyer, Richard Williams is no "psycho!" One of the early (white) coaches of the Williams sisters (when they were children) wrote a book in which he states that the Williams sisters were the most POLITE children he'd ever coached --and he'd coached HUNDREDS of children. The coach gave a lot of credit to Mr. Williams who he said would stop Venus and Serena from practicing for weeks at a time to take the family to Disney World and the like because he wanted them to have happy childhoods.

Stargate669, there are many middle class families in that area. Richard Williams himself was a security company manager/owner and Brandi Williams was a nurse. The Williamses were middle class -- but maybe "deprived" compared to what they have now. :-) One of Venus's and Serena's older sisters had a summer job in a clothing store and got to spend some of her earnings on "cute clothes for school" and save the rest. Sounds like the family was far from starving! One of their sisters is a lawyer.

if the USTSA was smart, theyd be knocking on the doors of richard williams and oracene prices to help develop more american juniors. they produced two of the greatest tennis players of all time from the same home. they are tennis geniuses.
Dusty Boyer,Mr.Richard Williams is not "psycho!" The Williams' sisters 3rd coach, after their dad (1) and their mom (2), was a white coach who was highly sought after. That coach wrote a book in which he stated that Richard Williams was a great father who stopped the girls from practicing for weeks at a time so he could take the entire family to Disney World.He wanted them to have happy childhoods.The coach also stated that the Williams sisters were the most POLITE children he'd ever coached!
