Serena's performance in this tournament was superb especially in the last 2 rounds. It would be difficult for anyone woman to beat her on clay in this form even though clay is not her favorite surface. The only American player i can think of that loved playing on clay was Chris Evert, so the fact that Serena was able to adapt her game to win this competition 3 times is very impressive.

It's not unpopular. Most tennis experts agree with you. Her serve was far better, she was better at constructing points an more tactical. The only part of her game that was slightly better in 2002-2003 was her foot speed.

The other way to say that is she beat two GS finalists, a 2-time GS champion, and a 5-time GS champion to win the title, which is more impressive than what Justine Henin did in 2005 and 2006. And the only player of substance that Henin beat in 2007 was Serena herself. So if THIS was unimpressive to you, then arguably nobody has ever been "impressive". Besides Chris Evert, can you name the player (and season) where someone had a more impressive run on clay? I'll wait!
