Certainly his masterpiece (with L'homme à la tête de chou). The only artist able to make french sound great, and bold enough for musical experimentation (like oriental cords mixed with electric guitar). Sorry to say, but understanding french is compulsory if you want to really appreciate Gainsbourg. His lyrics are unique, often imitated but still unequaled
