I was fortunate to be causally acquainted with Serge around this same time. He trained at golds gym in cypress,ca in Orange County. He trained as shown in this video. He did like a timed protocol counting reps not sets in a certain time parameter. Say twenty minutes on bench press and got a certain number of reps then next BP session would try to increase on that number.

It's not overtraining because the weights are lighter. Less taxing on central nervous system. He also incorporated 20 and 30 second rest periods. Longer rest periods on lower body. I also stopped lifting heavy weights often. No more aches and pains. With shorter rest periods, you have to decrease the weight. Feels awesome.
@dozermendoza
@dozermendoza 5 жыл бұрын
@Jason Bates if you mean "conditioning" yes. Adds a cardio type element if you take short rest periods on compound movements. Compound movements require longer rest period because more muscles involved, more oxygen supply needed. So typically at least 1 minute rest between sets, but if you shorten it to 30 seconds on squats or rows, adds cardio type feel.

@@nattybynature1262 less rest does not allow adequate clearance time for blood and metabolites from lactiacidosis. You muscle stays pumped, and creates occlusion. Allows you to get into the burn zone. The burn, lactiacidosis, creates the key thing needed, which is Metabolic Stress. Metabolic stress is one of the things that stimulates hypertrophy.

Look at all the "neanderthall skulls" and ancient human skulls almost all have big browridges. There are also numerous accounts of people living upto 150+ years search it up. High volume - never to failure w/ short test breaks not only builds mass quickly, it also burns fat like a furnace. 1yr later & am now certain Serge was exactly right for muscle mass. Medium-sized weights done for many sets w/ little rest in between IS the way. I did HIT for over 40 (FORTY!) damn years thinking I wasn't training heavy or hard enough when I was actually training too hard & too heavy. Totally contradicts everything I thought I knew about muscle building.
