The handsome and fun loving William Gaunt's (Marriot) engagement must have been short lived. The actress Jennie Linden was only in 1 episode according to IMBD.

Enjoy the series, but I wondered if women wore dresses with such décolletage, in the winter; normally?

A good old-fashioned mystery. This was the last episode of Series 4, and then there was a long hiatus of 18 months before the next series. I haven't seen any of those yet, it will be interesting to see if Marriott's changed condition will have any effect on his devotion to other pretty young girls.

A bit of a different role for the lady’s maid, from serving at the corner shop of coronation street and a foreign accent to boot😊

"Oh what a beautiful dog" says Sgt Cork at 25:17....."isn't she lovely".....as the maid scuttles past pretending to be a dog. Dog must have gone on strike at the last minute!

When will it be Cork's turn??!! 🤔 😉❤❤ Thank you hugely for posting this series, it is brilliant!! I just recently found it/your channel and I adore the show...the more I watch it, the more hooked I get, what fabulous characters and plots! BTW, the 60s were great years for quality television! Cheers and Merry Christmas from Seattle, U.S.A. 😊 🎄 ❤

oddly there is a cribb with a vaguely similar plot.an elderly friend of his sgt thackery is marrying a widow with two daughters .after the wedding cribb discovers she intends as here to kill her husband by poison.she too has several previous marriages where the husbands died mysteriously ! cribb tells her that her latest better live into his 90s or he will exhume the others and she will hang! she is left with no option but to look after the old duffer until the end of his days!

In reality there were several cases of young wife's poisoning their older much older husband's of their fortunes

@@lordeden2732 indeed it was the golden age of poisoning .maybrick was the most famous case though dubious forensics and the arsenic eating habits of the victim may have lead to a wromgful conviction.certainly strychnine and arsenic were to the detective writers delight common tools of the time.palmer and seddon were among the most notorious cases.in truth many many more may have gone unrecorded.the idea of poison is so nobody realises how the victim died.less common today as forensic science can now detect it!

In one episodes scene someone came back.from.Paris with a souviner Eiffel ( spelling ) Tower .I don't think it was, opened until about 1900 ? Saying that - the series seems to jump.from around the late 1880s to around 1900.

In the first series there was reference to the year being 1890, and in the third series another reference to 1892, so as far as intent they seemed to keep "in time" so to speak. The Eiffel Tower opened in the world's fair of 1889.
