Hello from Monrovia, CA (near Pasadena). My wife, who is from Melbourne, has a 25 year old Janome MY Excel 18W sewing machine, and a 23 year old Janome MY Lock 134D Serger. I became acquainted with your channel a few months back, when she had problems with the reverser on the sewing machine. I was astonished to find your video on how to fix the reverser for a similar Janome model, and was able to fix my wife's. Subsequently, she told me that the serger was not cutting the fabric, and I was further surprised (and immensely pleased) to find your video on checking and replacing serger blades - on a Janome! We got new blades, which I put on today, and the machine is working like a charm. You saved us twice now, which I am very grateful for. In addition, I really, really like how you do the videos - calm, patient, and relaxed vibe, and very thorough and clear explanations and instructions. Bravo!

Thank you so much for this post. I’ve just changed my blade , it’s an old one my husband sharpened for me. The bottom one is tungsten and looks great. My machine jammed asi was taking the blades out. It turned out there’s wee guide that runs parallel to the side of the lower looper. Somehow that was sticking out and Hitting the frame as it came across and jamming it. I’d never have had the courage to try and fix it , without diy videos like yours.

Thank you so much for putting this out there. I’ve had a Janome 1200D sitting for almost 2 years that supposedly had a new upper and lower blade replaced from a dealer. At the time I was helping my dad recover from a lengthy hospital stay so I didn’t play around with my serger too much. It went past the warranty time for repairs, so when I finally did get to sewing I realized something was wrong. So as time marched on I just serged without cutting. Having made my mind up never to take it back to the place that ruined it, I was determined to at least start trouble shooting myself. I discovered the throat plate was over tightened and was binding so my stitch width was not working properly for one ( I always had to push it back manually to make it narrow or wide). Second the screw that would allow an upper blade adjustment is stripped. It seems to come down far enough to cut completely but something isn’t right obviously. I just wanted to try different heights to see if I could get it to cut at all but now with the screw being messed up, I guess I could bore it out? I know hardware stores make bits for getting stripped screws out but wasn’t sure if sewing machines had special tools? Your video at least got me trouble shooting in the right direction! Thanks again.

Never mind I just answered my own question. I can use an open ended wrench. 😮

Thank you for this video. I have a Kenmore from around 2002 and I can see it's a Janome. I misplaced the book and couldn't figure out how to move the blade and move the finger for rolled hem. Now I know! So appreciate this.

Useful video! Thanks! My serger just stopped cutting, from one project to the other. I serged a very thick material lately but without using the knife. Now, it wouldn't want to cut at all. I will have a close look following your instructions.

Thank you for the video. I have Janome 134D and I am having a hard time getting the upper knife in the correct position to cut. Even after watching the video. .The fabric bunches up and won't cut

I have replaced both blades on mine and it just will not cut.. they overlap fine - perhaps closer to 2 or 3mm overlap though - but I cannot raise it any further. I can't get it served anywhere within hundreds of kilometres... any suggestions!?

My husband and i have both been trying to days and can NOT get the screws out of the lower blade on my Janome Mod serger. We're afraid we're going to strip the screws at this point! Any advice?

If you're not already, try a spanner and not a screwdriver. Thanks.

@@InStitches the bottom blade attaches with Phillips head screws like the lower blade in this video, they are flat to the blade so no way to use a spanner with them

@@nicolemh5759 Make sure you're using the correct sized screw driver and a high quality one. Thanks.

Sounds crazy, but try a tightening motion first. This sometimes frees the screw. Also try a hair dryer on it, but not too much because of the plastic.
