There are several things to observe. If Canelo manages to resist 12 rounds at that weight and if Kovalev manages to sustain Canelo's blows. If Kovalev wants to win, he must knock out Canelo.

I think Canelo is a great fighter and I give him respect for taking on this aging champ, by coming up from 165, in order to cement his legacy, to give Kovalev a big payday and to give fans a super-intriguing boxing match. Even if Canelo is stopped, his legacy is in tact, so he can’t really lose, but, if he wins, wow! However, I think Krusher is highly motivated to show the smaller man why there are weight classes. I predict a KO by Krusher by about round 8.

you need to keep in mind that canelo during training camp his entire years at 154 and 160 has had sparring partners that weighed 180+ lbs. So the punching power shouldn't come much of a shock to him. I'm not saying it's gonna be easy, im just clarifying.

Big difference between what guys throw in sparring and what they throw in a real fight though. Even with the protective gear, you'd still stand a good chance of getting hurt if there wasn't. Also Kovalev still probably hits much harder than most people in that weight range. This will be the biggest test of Canelo's chin. GGG was able to hurt him, and that was at 160, there's another 15 pounds on this one, against the 2nd best puncher in the division. I think it's a 50-50 fight or something close. Just a really good fight.

Kovalev looking good. He still has a lot of bounce in his legs. I haven't heard anything about a rehydration clause but can't imagine Canelo would make the fight without one. Kovalev's usual weight fight night is prob close to 190lbs.
