From our 3rd Season of Paramount Television’s hit 80s TV series, “SOLID GOLD“: enjoy the late-great SERGIO MENDES performing his hits "THE LOOK OF LOVE" and "MAS QUE NADA" with our host, MARILYN MCCOO and the SOLID GOLD DANCERS. As Musical Director, I had the good fortunate of spending an afternoon at Sergio's house, where he and I co-arranged this duet for him, his band and Marilyn.

Great memories of Sergio Mendes that I cherish from 1983. He also performed 2 hit songs around the same time with Joe Pizzulo a member of the Solid Gold band back-up singers. So sad to lose another icon. Thanks for the memories Michael!

A blend of sophisticated talent with both "The Look Of Love" and "Mas Que Nada" featuring the blended voices of Marilyn McCoo and Sergio Mendes graced the "Solid Gold" stage in a broadcast dated July 30, 1983. The Solid Gold Dancers dancing to "Mas Que Nada" helped to enhance its effects. It is a fitting tribute to Sergio Mendes, who helped introduce and popularize the bossa nova musical genre during the mid to late 1960s and emerged as a pop music sensation with hits during the mid-1980s that included "Solid Gold" background singer Joe Pizzulo and Leza Miller on "Never Gonna Let You Go" and some other songs with Joe, including "Alibis". The 1960s sounds of Sergio Mendes were enriched by the singin by two ladies with easy listening voices, Lani Hall and Bibi Vogel, who formed his group Brasil '66. Their rendition of "The Look Of Love" is one of the best studio recordings ever, in my opinion, and Marilyn and Sergio did an excellent rendition here in a medley form, as well as with "Mas Que Nada". An obscure fact is that a food news talk radio program on Los Angeles radio in its 1999 through 2003 incarnation, had a weekend program called "Food Talk", which had been hosted by Melinda Lee and her opening theme music was always "Mas Que Nada", each and every episode. There were requests from listeners about the "bumper music" used on her show to the point that her webmaster placed in order of appearance all the music used on her food talk radio show. It was an unlikely, but very effective way to get exposure for many of the artists featured. The songs were not played in their entirety, of course, but enough for song titles and discussions were done. With "Mas Que Nada" as her opening theme, the brief portion played gave a little more exposure to the music of Sergio Mendes and that was very good to occur. Thank you, Michael, for the placement of this upload to memorialize Sergio Mendes and exhibit the combined talents of Marilyn McCoo and Sergio Mendes in July 1983. The video and audio quality are superb. A beautiful trubute to a major crossover talent, Sergio Mendes and his variety of musical achievements over the years.❤
