Greetings from the UK. I'm a priest and am pleasantly surprised to see your comment. I often offer families options of music for the Funeral Recessional, after they share stories about their loved one. Jobim's Waters of March has become remarkably popular over the past few years. So i would appear you're not too far off the mark, friend. In fact, I too have noted it in my own funeral music request! Águas de Março was one of Jobim's most moving compositions for his life. Our world owes him, and so many others for the joys they've brought us in music for the soul! May all your journeys be ones of discovery! Fr Bill+ projectnewlife.org. Aguas de Marco ( Waters of March ) originally by Jobim is a great song. Lyrics is very hard to be sang by heart. since words are just scattered without standarts. It can easly mixed around in any verse along the song. By the way, the female singers duo you see in this video are acctually americans and their Portuguese is quite good.

This is a great performance and stands on its own. Srgio was alway a little commercial, but a great artist, who always gives more to the music than he takes. Jobim's 1986 version of this is the "swinginist."

Hi... I'm not sure if you ever got an answer to your question, but I found out through some sleuthing that this live performance of "The Waters Of March" was part of a special show put on by Sergio Mendes at the 2007 Jakarta Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia. Unfortunately, I was unable to identify the female vocalists. Cheers! ~Robin~

Correct name = aguas de marco. This song lyrics makes a balance between the bad situation and the bad season when waters ( month of march ) ends the brazilian summer. oposition side by side as life and death, joy and sadness, begining and ending, etc.

But we can't deny that Sergio Mendes was an important man in the Brazilian music cause, with mixtures like those, he popularized the Bossa Nova even in Brazl, where the rythm is almost dying. With "Mas que nada", young people here started listening to Bossa Nova and now this rythm is growning up again.

Both may still be with him. For sure, I saw a reference on Google to Dawn Bishop singing with him in 2011. Search using the following keywords: "Dawn Bishop" Mendes and "Jessica Taylor" Mendes ... The lyrics to the "waters of march" by the great Antonio Carlos Jobim(the father of bossa nova) are really quite profound. And since this video was so short you only got a few lines of the total poem. Although I can only speculate since i am just an english speaking americano. but search for song, and you'll find the english translation is quite long, beautiful, mysterious, hopeful, dark, light, everything-waters of march=(roughly)the promise of spring(i think).

This song talks about theconsequences and issues about the Fall season in Central/northeastern Brazil. It happens during March/April/May. During that season, water is everywhere due to frequent rains and flooded rivers. The song lyrics mentions on problem after another one, despite the joy the water brings. The lyrics lines are hard to memorize, it doesn't reapeat. It's 3 points thing: the swing, the lyrics and the beat. Not basic chords. It starts with Ab9/ Bb

It isn't quite Lani and Janice, but it is very good and highly evocative of the original Brazil '66. Sergio's arrangement is every bit as good as in those days.

Sergio first recorded this song on his 2nd & last album with Bell Records in 1974 "Vintage 74". Overlooked album, Clive Davis & Bell Records gave a one time only Promotion when first released. Clive was wanting Sergio to become another 5th Dimension. Got FD''s Producer Bob Alcivar & Engineer Bones Howe to do Sergio's 2 awesome Bell Records albums. 1973's "Love Music" and 1974's "Vintage 74". Gracinha Leporace & Bonnie Bowden were perfection on "Waters Of March". Again Sergio recorded WOM on 1978's 2nd Elektra Release Brasil'88. Marietta Waters, Carol Rogers & Cruz Baca mastered the vocals then😎. Then again in 2010's 2nd Concord Records release "Bom Tempo". A Latin Grammy winner for best Pop/World Album. Also nominated for a Grammy. Ledisi was guest artists vocalist, with Dawn Bishop & Katie Hampton.
@hughphillips18775 жыл бұрын
All these amazing vocalist nailed it. I love Lani & Karen ( a very rare coupling of singers in one band). Sergio struck "gold" with them. Lanis lead vocals & Karens complimentary harnonies. Their vocals were so crystal clear, very easy to hear what they were singing. Then in 1970 Karen took the lead to probably the hippest song Sergio ever Recorded. The last "Brasil'66" album "Stillness, Lanis last, she did half the songs. But unmistakenly on "For What Its Worth" Karen shows her "lead vocal" chops. With Lani blending in😎. Stephen Stills must've loved Sergios version. In fact there is a mix of Sergio's&Buffalo Springfields versions. They even have Stephen Stills added to the back cover of Brasil'66 with Stephen Stills put between Claudio Slon & Oscar Castro Neves. You guys out there go to KZbin, Sergio Mendes For What Its Worth, checkout the groovy mix😎
