My folks played this when they had dinner parties . Great memories . I’m 58 today.
@Wixom22003 жыл бұрын
Our parents had all this great music to play at dinner parties. Young people under 50. Have no idea how mid to late 60s and early 70 were the jams. Jimmy Webbs Wlineman is the outright jam. Nobody did it though like Glen Campbell. God rest him. This redention is cool though.

Oh, I feel so blessed to of grown up in this time period. I became a devoted fan of Sergio Brasil'66 in 1968. I was in the 8th Grade. It was when, probably most of us became aware of this unique, brilliant, beautiful original sound of Sergio Mendes, they performed the Oscar Nominated Song, "The Look Of Love" from Casino Royale. Performance was perfection, and memorable. Karen had not yet joined so Lani Hall & Janis Hansen did the vocals🎵🎵🎼🎼🎤🎤. I was in tears of joy, also amazed at the very long, loud, clapping, whistling people in the audience. The applause was still going on when they came back from Station Break. I remembered my Mom saying, "Well they have probably just picked up thousands of more fans". Now as for this performance from the Music Scene in 1969, Karen Philipp had been with them a bit more than a year. From their 5th Album Release "Ye-Me-Le", they 1st performed the brilliant, haunting yet very uplifting Title Track, in Portuguese, rarely done back then, but it's Sergio😎. It was awesome, they came back and did their awesome version of the Jimmy Webb written, song which was big hit for Glen Campbell, but Sergio & the Girls added their special magic to make it as if Jimmy Webb wrote it for Sergio & Band. Eventhough back then, artists had to Lip Sync, it still was awesome.

Nice! I was also in 8th grade and 'discovered Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66. The other kids though ti was weird because I was listening to that kind of music. I really didn't get into the rock pop stuff, the default music. The Bossa music, and B66 was a departure from the rackety stuff over the transistor radio. Beautiful sounds, beautiful ladies and the genius that Mr. Mendes still is to this day.

Is the one at the right Karen or Janis? Never could tell the two apart. Yemele is from the second to last Brasil '66 albums. I bought them all! And it took years before it was re-released on CD. "Stillness" was the last album; after the recording session, Herb Alpert kidnapped Lani Hall. 😁

Dunno, man, they were such a good group it would have been nice if their TV appearances weren't just lip-synched...yet 90% of them were....
@stevearmstrong53243 жыл бұрын
Almost everybody did back then.
@barty89803 жыл бұрын
It was just the way they did things back then. Much less expensive to lip sync along to a known recording instead of trying to set up an entire band, mic up all instruments, and vocals. Also, although they could get really good sound, many TV’s of the era could not play it well, so a studio performance was (maybe) better than an unknown live version. But then you could hear live music with the Tonight Show Band and it was great. If we only knew to hook up a TV audio feed to our stereos back then.

This was version 2 of this group. Sergio for reasons only known to him, fired everyone. Janis was the original alternate singer in version 1, then invited only Lani back; as Herb recommended. Later Lani left the group and they faded away. Brazil 77 and 88 were shadows of their past.
