That’s the magical thing about music, it transcends & connects us in ways we can’t explain. That being said this song is from an Opera written by Puccini called “Turandot”. If you understood the context of & what he’s actually singing about it makes it even more powerful & emotional. When I see people’s positive reactions to this restores my faith in humanity & gives me hope to❤

Everyone who hears an opera singer for the first time is blown away by the power of their voices. Their voices are so powerful because they perform UNAMPLIFIED. Their voice has to reach to the top and back of the opera house. That's one reason why their voices sound the way they do, but it is also the reason for the power. Even third-rate opera singers can blow away pop singers with the power of their voices, and you are hearing one of the best tenors who ever lived.

Good for you, broadening your musical horizons with some great opera! You would no doubt really enjoy seeing a live opera if there is an opera house near you. The one I used to frequent was the Santa Fe Opera. Pavarotti was indeed one of the best of many wonderful operatic tenors. My favorite has always been Mario Lanza, an Italian-American opera singer. He chose to perform in movies rather than the operatic stage, and Hollywood chewed him up and spit him out. Sadly he died in his late 30's. He was sometimes criticized by the snobs and purists but it was he who brought opera to the masses & introduced the movie-going public to opera. I was a teenager when he was in his prime and I really loved his movies. He sang classical opera, some Italian traditional songs, and some songs in English. He was on the radio, in jukeboxes, and our private record collections. I spent some of my babysitting money on his 45rpm vinyl records. Sometimes it was even our make-out music, that and jazz. Here's a link to one of his biggest hits sung in English, Be My Love. Listen to the lyrics & imagine someone's kisses making you feel dizzy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWWmk2Z6ZdZ7qdE

Luciano Pavarotti was and is a legend throughout the world. He also spread his love in mostly all genres of music by bringing in artist from around the world to sing in front of immense crowds in city centers because arenas would not hold them in number. One of the most viewed is ( it's a mans world) with James Brown try this one out to see how Luciano mingles opera and pop/blues/ rock like it existed together the whole time. Great reaction

Pavarotti was excellent when it came to matching up the perfect facial expression to what the song was conveying through the lyrics. That is especially demonstrated by the last line in Italian: "I will win". Most singers sing it the same way because it is supposed to be the stance of a warrior but, Pavarotti brings it to a whole other level. Pavarotti had a symbiotic relationship with this song. Pavarotti lived to sing this song and the song lived to be sung by Pavarotti.
