In 1993, I attended a workshop, as part of my pursuit of a criminal justice degree, that was conducted by Robert Ressler, a former FBI profiler, and the man who coined the term "serial killer." One of the cases we discussed was this one. Following the workshop, I did a deep dive (pre-internet) into this case. I mention this only to compliment your research into this case, Scott. Thank you for bringing me a bit of closure, as I had not seen their final resting places prior to this vlog. In all actuality, it's not a case, it's a story of innocence lost. Two precious lives,snuffed out by a piece of garbage. Thank you, Scott, for honoring these two young souls. Rest in peace, Shari and little Debra, and prayer of comfort to their families.

So sad. I’m watching this waiting for my daughter to come home from work (It’s just gone 11pm here in the U.K)….She will be 18 in 20 days time…Shari was 24 days shy of hers. Makes me realise just how young she was and imagine the pain her and Debra’s family felt. They were both just babies. I’ll hug my daughter extra tight in a minute when she comes home and be thankful for her just that little bit more tonight ❤️ Thankyou for giving the victims legacy and helping them to always be remembered ❤️

I remember watching a TV movie in the early 90's about Shari's murder. Her sister Dawn was a big part of the story as well. "Nightmare in Columbia County" or later renamed "Victim of Beauty: The Dawn Smith Story"

This video was so thoughtfully done, thank you. I lived about 10 minutes away from where Shari was abducted, it was a very scary time for the whole community. I live about 45 minutes away today, but still think about this tragedy often. Another horror story was Pee Wee Gaskins, you would do a good job with that one.

This was a terrible time for South Carolina. I lived thru it back then. The fear was horrible knowing a killer was out there until he was caught, and what he did to the Smith family was horrible taunting them with several phone calls. Hard to believe it was almost 40 yrs ago. Rip to their beautiful souls.

This story stood out for me too. Season 7 Episode 42, Forensic Files. The episode does not go into detail about the younger victim, with the exception of explaining Bell’s serial killer behavior. I do remember how he was caught through writing indentation, aka latent handwriting. The detectives who catch their perpetrators are those who see their victims as their own children or family members. I was/am greatly impressed by the detectives on Shari’s case and her parents were incredibly courageous throughout the ordeal! As a mother, I try not to imagine the horror of losing a child, but in a way, letting my mind go there allows me to be more compassionate towards other parents who have had their worst fears actualized by acts of senseless violence. God bless the detectives for being the moral compass for the community and bringing the girls’ killer to justice. God bless the families. RIP.

Studied this case in forensics. I remember thinking of the fear that Shari must have been going thru in her mind. Writing your own last will and testament, knowing you're about to be murdered. Torturing her, her sister and her parents, giving them false hope. When this happened, I actually broke down. She was my age. Had her whole life ahead of her until that sick pervert took her.
