------------
In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

I just don't understand why he didn't do what I thought was going to be the obvious move, which was to keep moving around the caravan just out of eye sight of Alex until Noel can make it around to the front and actually get inside the caravan of which Alex would probably not look in, at least for a long while.

I'm actually french, and can I just say: Mel's french is very excellent. There are some words that she doesn't know (the verb "burster" isn't a thing, for instance) but overhall she has a great diction, accent and vocabulary. Very impressive. And the way she translated Hugh is actually perfect. It IS "Hughes", pronounced the way she does. Justice for her.

I utterly love how unpredictable Greg is, loving Hugh's "chair". It makes the whole show work, because the viewer gets the sense that he's being true to whatever his internal definition of his character is and not the expectations of said character. It keeps the show from feeling like a farce or scripted. And it provides endless fodder for arguments by fans afterward XD

I feel like the prize task is a great way to keep things competitive, and the final task a lot of the time. They have some leeway to give points to who they need to to make the show better, though a truly bad or excellent prize is hard to score 1 or 5 respectively.

So something that's been occurring to me as I've been going through and watching full episodes, is that there is some untold number of tie-breaker tasks that have been filmed, that we've never seen. Like, all five contestants had to have attempted the mayo jar task, but we only saw three of them, and presumably there's a tie break task filmed for every episode, but we only see a couple of them a season. I would love to see a compilation of unaired tie break tasks.

As an American I have never felt as alienated from Taskmaster as I did when the phrase "You cannot speak English" appeared on the task and neither team seemed that worried. Being able to just switch to competent French or German on the fly because you were taught it in school is unheard of here.
@bluesbest1

Well, depending on where you live, that might not be a problem. If you live in the Southwest or Florida, Spanish tends to be a common second language. And if you live in New York or some other major immigration center, then chances are you've picked something up. That being said, I haven't been able to hold any kind of conversation in a second language in about ten years despite living in the LA region.
@krashd
@krashd Жыл бұрын
In the UK language lessons are mandatory, in most high schools you have a choice of German or French but in bigger schools they also have Spanish, so you tend to leave school with at least a decent understanding of a second language. In mainland Europe almost everyone can speak two (or more) languages as they tend to be fluent in their own language but also English, and many of them make fun of us Brits because they think we don't bother to learn other languages because we "think English is superior", but we do actually learn a second language at school. I did four years of German in high school and I get to practice it against Germans when gaming online.
@bluesbest1
@bluesbest1 Жыл бұрын
@@krashd We have language classes in America, too. It's just that most of us basically sleep through class and barely use our learned language so it atrophies. I took a couple years of Spanish, but since I basically never had any reason to _use_ Spanish I forgot most of it by the time I graduated.
@jijitters
@jijitters Жыл бұрын
@@bluesbest1 Yeah unfortunately classes in the US are more about "memorizing stuff for the tests" than actually *learning* and that includes language classes, so most of us don't ever make much use of it past whatever vocab meshes with our everyday speech. 3 years of Spanish myself and barely any of it stuck.
