Some wonderful matrices behind all this to transform the position from one to another including rotation. When it was going over lose stones, well at my age I can only admire the brilliant minds who can " see" further than I can. Congratulations to all who had a hand in all this. I am building a simple one for my grandson and I shall exhibit it at his school, hoping that no one will break it. Congratulations once again, Brilliant work of a modern mind........... but the actual building in reality is also difficult to synthesise.

Honestly, I think that things like the Mars Rover would do better with this kind of locomotion. It can climb over rocks like the rover can have trouble doing. Especially the ones with the many rows of legs. seems like it would be much more stable? I get this is an animation. But he got the design from Theo jansens' "Strand beests," which are real world models powered by wind. I always wondered what would happen if an engine was put on one and it was made of metal rather than wood and plastic...

great invention, but where ist the motor and the electronics?
@LepidoliteMica9 жыл бұрын
paimun67 This is all animated. There's a simulated motor in the core, but the rest is entirely simulated physical, mechanical magic. For more info on the mechanics in play, look up the "strandbeest".
@littlesnowflakepunk8559 жыл бұрын
+Lepidolite Mica I thought the whole point of Strandbeest were that they were powered by natural forces like wind or gravity? I've never seen one with a motor.
@LepidoliteMica9 жыл бұрын
Tetrachromia Yeah, maybe I wasn't entirely clear there. The Strandbeest in the video here is computer animated; it still doesn't use a motor, but simply because it's a computer simulation it really doesn't need one. It's more impressive seeing one in real life, where it's very clearly not motor-controlled.
