I sat at a round table, opposite of Mr. Williams at a Passover Seder in Denver. Mr. Williams was with his family. To my immediate right sat his son...a very nice and well mannered young man. While in polite conversation, his son asked me what I did for a living. I told him. He then proudly told me that his dad "made movies." After a brief but awkward pause, I sincerely apologized to the young man for not recognizing his father (at the time). I admitted to reading mostly, and never taking much interest in movies. The young man took it well, and seemed perhaps even a bit relieved that I wasn't there to bother anyone. In retrospect, I think the night may have gone better that way. Several years later, after learning of Mr. Williams passing, I've thought of that young man that I met on that early April evening of that year, ...often wanting to express my heartfelt condolences for his loss.

The title here is wrong. The instructor picked the *perfect* person for his demonstrations. The instructor was emphasizing the need to turn your opponents force against him, and that is exactly what the "stranger" demonstrates. So far from the wrong person, the "stranger" turns the whole thing into the perfect teaching moment, and the instructor knows this and loves it.

Yeah they had to show it that way because they had to show the moves slower for a general audience and also keep in mind this wasn’t a high production series where they had the luxury of stuntmen, crash mats and the insurance for cases of injuries. (I worked in media and did martial arts. Trust me there’s a lot of red tape and formality to go through even to do a white belt scene like this one.).

Lots of good comments here about Treat Williams but no one has mentioned his fun action/monster film Deep Rising. He was great in it.

Treat Williams was always a cool character. I still recall watching 'Deep Rising' (1998) the same year as this movie, with some relatives in Scotland in 2001, whilst getting pissed on Johnny Walker Black, and Iron Bru, a Scottish soft drink. We kept pissing ourselves laughing at the SQUIBS! Lol! Oh, the good old days. Too many from those days no longer with us, but memories will last as long as either we are alive, or our brains still work. I wonder if the driver that caused his death was charged? I know from my days on bicycles and motorbikes, being on two wheels can be dangerous....mind you, as I have also discovered several times, so can being in a car! 😕
