Series Parallel with Blend Knob

Master Volume, Tone and blender pot with series activation. Volume boost or tone change at the push of a knob! Arranged volume, blend, tone, and jack. Your volume knob doubles as a series selector when you PULL it up. Blend knob is fully functional in either mode meaning you can blend as much bridge and neck you want in parallel mode. Note! Series mode blending is basically possible however, the volume is lower when the blend is 100% neck or bridge. Honestly, not recommended. To truest use series mode, the blend knob should be at the half way point which you can feel with the detent in the knob itself.
This harness gives you a new tonal spectrum of two single coils in series on your Jazz Bass sounding like one giant pickup.
Note: blend pot in series mode actually lowers volume when blended towards neck or bridge fully. Middle position gives you full volume in series as it should.
Series position can actually be blended with unfortunate volume loss. Yes, series is blended with volume loss.
Summary: Normal parallel circuit with blend knob.
Pull volume knob for series mode. (One giant pickup sound)
Volume pot is an audio taper push pull from CTS
Treble bleed, Kinman style. .001 uF cap with a 150k resistor both dipped in protective liquid electrical tape.
Bourns blend pot
4 pigtails to solder you pickups to. Color coded for easy installation.
CTS tone pot, Linear taper 250k
CHONKY Orange Drop tone cap .05uF dipped in protective liquid electrical tape.
Switchcraft 1/4” Jack
Knobs have brass adapters under them just in case you need to use 24 teeth push knobs or screw locking.

Very interesting project!! Is it possible use a "no load" tone pot like a CTS 250K Blender split pot (vintage audio taper 30% curve)?. Greetings from Italy!

Great question. You could add any type of pot you want to something like this. I’m not sure about the push pull pot though. I’m not sure if those are safe to open and cut the carbon tracking.

@@ticktockfool theoretically this kind of tone pot can be bypass the tone section at the maximum position. The result can be a super wide sound without tone section influence. Theoretically. but I didn't know the compatibility with your diagram..

When its in series, does the neck go into the bridge? I guess what im asking is how exactly does series signal chain work in a pickup series path? And which pickup will have the most dominance with the series wiring?

In series, the positive and negative are connected. Exactly like a split coil on a P bass. No dominance. The neck and bridge basically become one pickup. Acting together. Acting in series. Dominance can only be done in parallel when you blend one pickup in favor with of another.

@@ticktockfool Ahh okay awesome thanks for the tip! Have you tried playing in series with different windings of the same type of pickup… for example a fralin split jazz pickup on bridge (5% under-wound for more treble) with a fralin split jazz pickup on neck (10% overwound for more low mids)… what would this do to your tone having those in series but different winds?

@@personalfreedom2700 interesting! Not sure exactly however, this build can partially ground out one pickup or another while in series mode believe it or not. This “odd” feature might actually be useful for pickups like that.
