The most thrilling story-with-music ever made is Mario Lanza in 'Serenade.' All the quivering excitement of James M. Cain's best-seller...The story of a farm hand who won fame as a singer and almost lost his soul as a man!

Why is it that it Rebecca she hasn't that husky voice. But the Brit accent is still the same. Lovely as ever Joan and real great actress!

While I wish she were more "Rebecca" or "This Above All" in real life, I suspect she was always more "Serenade". But there's Hollywood's magic for you, on a rainy saturday afternoon in the 21st century, she is just what the screen shows you.

forgive my ignorance - does she have anything to do with the voiceover "Fontaine?

Fontaine was the surname name of her stepfather. Joan's mother forbade her to use "De Havilland," as she favored Olivia more than Joan, forcing Joan to find another surname.

In fact, this movie has almost NOTHING to do with Cain's masterpiece novel. The title is virtually the only thing they have in common. Though I adore Joan Fontaine, this movie is a travesty.
