Mike I agree with you on the free thing. Last summer I had 10 nice wood pallets that I had no use for. I stacked them out by the road and put a big sign on them that said "Free". They set out there for two days. I then told my wife I was going to go get the tractor and grab this pallets and just keep them. She said let me try something first, I said ok. She went out and took off the free sign and put a sign that said $3.00 each. She put a little wood box next to them that said place money inside. We ran to town and came back in two hours and everything was gone. They stole the pallets and the little wood box. Lol.. didn't want it when it was free but was willing to steal it when I put a price on it. Crazy world we live in for sure.

To each his own, Mike I use fire wood to heat my house and work shop. So I use every piece of wood, doesn’t matter what the size, or what it looks like it use it all including the slabs , branches it all makes heat. We have family and friend come over and we gather around the fire pit area and socialize. There’s just something soothing about standing and sitting around a nice fire. 😅

We always used a 3point buzz saw on the back of a small tractor to cut up the slabs into firewood. Takes seconds to cut a bunch at a time. Would then throw the pieces directly in a dump truck to take home or deliver. Even then it was more likely firestarter then good firewood.

Greetings from the western Ozarks! A lot getting done here n the farm, not the least of which was about 30 lbs of venison in the freezer as of last night. I have never processed a deer with so much fat before, especially not a 1 1/2 yo. I’m a little concerned what this means for how cold the winter might be. Bo is a happy little boy. They’re such fun! Credit to calm parents too. Nice to have them nearby and a regular part of the life at Camp Morgan.

I used to buy slab wood from the local saw mill but it was cut into about 17inch lengths. I could get a small dump truck load delivered for about 15 bucks. The mill always had a huge pile of wood that they would deliver and dump.

Seems like he would be interested in it, or the process. He is a thinking interesting your man. Thanks Mike

5:30 this is why I will post even small items for at least $5 or $10. The problem with free postings is that there are way too many bottom feeder buyers out there with searches set up for $0 items. They clog up the process, so you gotta set a price to weed some of them out. On those small items, I will often just hand the small items to the person for free if they are prompt and responsible buyers and if they didn't fool around with cancelations and time wasting BS.

I do the majority of maintenance and with 4 of these "ground pounders" there's plenty during the seasons. I even make a few extra dollars for pocket money. You should have sawn up those slabs into logs after work , bagged them up and distributed them to the poor old age pensioners in town. I used to help my dad in the fifties to do that with the local Rotary club with wood from a sawmill in the next village. There is a strange ending to this story, we all noticed that the coal house/bunkers of said persons were invariably full of coal, but they accepted the firewood happily and with good grace. Even though i was only about ten or eleven I got the impression that most of them were a little embarrassed by the whole scheme, i have no idea how the people were chosen beforehand. All the best from England .
