Doom 2016 and the Serious Sam series have taken the mid 90s shooters to the modern era. It was Quake I think that really started to take the doom formula into 3d. Same studio behind Doom and Wolfenstein 3d. Serious Sam was just doing it when most shooters moved on to be more like Half Life, and Halo. Speaking of oldschool demon shooters I'd like to see another Unreal game with a strong single player campaign.

Serious Sam Classic Revolution is pretty much abandoned and dead in the water by its devs. The online MP is broken as a result, and the new campaign is never coming. It's been over 2 years since the last update. The only reason the devs refuse to acknowledge the fact that they have abandoned it because they would be liable for false advertisement and have to provide refunds.
@ThePaSch5 жыл бұрын
Revolution is free. Owners of the classic First Encounter & Second Encounter have automatically had it added to their library; and the classic games are no longer listed separately on Steam. You're not buying Revolution; you're buying the classic games. Revolution itself is just a bonus add-on, or the "full package" that combines both games.
@IDGCaptainRussia5 жыл бұрын
@@ThePaSch doesn't change the fact he's doing Revolution simply because he, like most uninformed people view it as the "superior title" to classic. Which already means his review is not going to be valid as he's showing a lack of veterancy with the series, unlike myself and a few friends who have been around since 2002.

another difrrence between hd and classic is that the shotguns are trash the double barreled shotgun is random and has poor range. fusion also has issues with enemy speed when they around corners they increase to ludicrous speeds make the kleer broken edit: the demons in second encounter their projectiles can be destroyed with non explosives in hd in classic you need at least the rocketlauncher theres also some new secrets, the minigun also uses less ammo making it stronger than in the original

Serious Sam 1 and 2 were made for PC and were incredibly scalable in terms of options, HD remakes use engine of the 3d game that is the same - made for PC with loads of scalability. Serious Sam 2 was made for consoles first, and then ported to PC. It has no HD remake and runs on a different engine. Fusion uses same engine for all games, and SS2 being on a different engine does not allow it to be used without porting it over to SS3 engine first, and since SS2 is considered to be the worst in the series it's possible that it's just not worth the effort for them to port it. Absence of gravity tricks in the HD remasters makes me sad.
@SolaisY5 жыл бұрын
Let me clarify it a bit: Serious Sam 2 was released in 2005. While the original encounters were remade in SSHD, in 2009 and 2010, they were ported not to an advanced version of their original Serious Engine 1, but to the Serious Engine 3, a highly advanced and changed version of the Serious Engine 2. There was actually a lot of work done for SE3 to support the unique entities and architecture of SE1, as the two engines were very different (the Serious Engine was recreated from scratch for SS2, and since then, that version is being updated ad infinitum). In the end, a converter was made between the two engines. When the Fusion hub was made, SSHD and SS3 had to be ported again, to the newest iteration of the engine, this was done via built in compatibilities; but they still had to be fixed up, and to this day, the Fusion versions differ from the original versions. When SS2 was attempted to be ported, a whole lot of problems arose: Even though the Fusion engine is based on the SS2 engine, most of the code that SS2 ran on was gone, many models refused to load, the scripting language changed, etc. While technically the same conversion process that was done with SSHD could be done, it is less feasible with SS2 due to a variety of reasons. For one, SS2 is a much larger game: SSHD already took long enough to make, worked on by the whole team. SS2 is twice the size and complexity as TFE and TSE combined. The second reason is that SS2 is a very different game from the rest of the series in style and presentation and had gone through some rocky development; it had been an idea for a while that some of the developers wanted to remake/reboot it as it was originally supposed to be. The third reason that unlike SSHD games, Fusion is a hub, and is given free to owners of the originals. SS2 would need such a development time to port that it would need a full team, and the cancellation of SS4, eventually the game sold for money like SSHD. Considering that Croteam wanted to reboot SS2 to begin with, it's safe to say that they rather choose that solution than going with a "SS2 HD" for Fusion.
@VergilHiltsLT5 жыл бұрын
@@SolaisY "The second reason is that SS2 is a very different game from the rest of the series in style and presentation and had gone through some rocky development; it had been an idea for a while that some of the developers wanted to remake/reboot it as it was originally supposed to be." That's not a valid reason. Regardless of its development and style, many players would like to have a complete collection of all the games in Fusion, including Serious Sam II. Croteam tried something different with it and whether you like it or not is your business entirely, there are many players out there who love SS2 along with the classics, such as myself. Check out the Steam reviews, forums and KZbin comments. As for everything else, good job on clarifying.

I pretty much clicked off the video after you said Revolution. Revolution is a buggy, abandoned piece of crap that does represent the classic games well. If your going to do an authentic review of Classic, you need to it legit, with the original versions. (not Revolution ) here's something you could do that I'd love AND would bring much needed light to this series: Mods, this series has mods that can rival GTA5's, but no one ever covers them

@@Gamingpastime64 Read steam reviews, Kenneth Eaton 's comment also sums it up fairly well. (Honestly if you making a review, I don't see why you wouldn't know this) I've had rev pretty much since it came out, there's been stories how Stratch (the lead dev) abused former team members, oh and course the busted netcode. Also, if you've had trouble getting out of water.... That's a problem in that version of the game, doesn't exist in the originals. I'm pretty serious about the mods part, it's really sad how no youtuber with a decent following gives them any light, they're honestly some of the best mods made for any game. I mean just consider the views it'll bring in! People would want to see this stuff! finally, effort is still here. It's just not a video for me. It's funny after all these years to see someone falling for the classic traps like not using the rifle's scope, it deals massively reduced damage if you don't aim it properly. (Says so in NETRICSA) Definitely see the HD games as lesser than the originals though, the more up to date visuals really clash against the mostly super flat and sparce environments. It's also nowhere near as colourful as the original games and never mind the half a dozen spots in The Second Encounter that had to be mostly scrapped because the new engine lost the gravity features. It's the classic games with none of the charm like playing Minecraft with realistic textures. The HD games are pretty and most of the time do a decent enough job but the originals just feel better once you get over the whole "ohh, pretty graphics" phase.
