I’ve never been a fish sauce person. I grew up more of a soy sauce person. I really hate the stuff. What I didn’t understand was I was sampling the cheapest stuff around from like inexpensive restaurants. And seem to me artificial, chemically, and metallic tasting. Very gross. Reminded me of cheap soy sauce but worse. My friend, a culinary graduate, in Bangkok told me to try a better fish sauce and recommend Red Boat brand from Vietnam. He told me about Farang fish sauce too called Worcestershire sauce, lol. So I do like English fish sauce. I did watch a video and it definitely is made with fermented fish. I didn’t want to purchase a whole bottle of real fish sauce even if it was of quality. But I did run across Black Anchovy Sauce made in Korea 5 oz bottle at the close out store for one dollar. Ingredients: fermented, anchovies.(anchovy, salt), water, salt, sugar, vinegar, lemon juice, yeast extract. Plus it was activated charcoal filtered. It was very smooth. The ancient Romans made a fish sauce called Garum. I saw that on “History of cooking with Max Miller” Fish sauce has been around. It might be to your advantage to get some Farang W sauce for yourself and or buy some high quality fish sauce for your wife, and blow her mind. Just stay away from the ones with garbage ingredients. I got some fish sauce on my fingers reading the label. Guess what it reminded me of? 🐈 lol There might be hope for me liking fish sauce after all.

I love Thai rainstorms. I could watch from the porch all day long. You missed so many things about having a Thai wife. Of course, all women are different but I have been married for 24 years now (I checked as well) and I can't imagine anything better. Thai women are extremely family oriented. That has both good and bad connotations to it but it has always been great from me and I'm amazed at how the family works in Thailand. My wife also demands that she is the caregiver in the family. Food, meds and any way to help her family is paramount to her. I love Thai people and especially my wife. I couldn't imagine my life without her and out two kids.

Love the title.....when I arrive back to Thailand all the western seriousness soon disappears. I have to remember things change every minute in Thai home life. Smile and accept. I agree with the fomented fish.... it takes years if you ever really do to get used to it. I think the fish go to the bottom in the heat of the day, ours do the same.

Building our house in Chanthaburi, we did not have any divine direction, nor do have a spirit house. We lived in Australia for 10 years and my wife believes that ghosts will vacate a farang farm.

1) You were gaslit on the 3 stairs. There is one issue about what direction you face when sleeping otherwise everything else is just some outside superstitious nonsense. The house shouldn't actually face the rising or setting sun for practical reasons of direct sunlight. So that is actually a smart decision. 2) The stinky fish sauce is a nightmare for fly infestation. Once it's scent is in the air there is an immediate fly invasion. You have to disinfect area's with the spilled sauce or used eating wares. 3) The pond fish are generally talapia, mud eels and cat fish. Very robust for the environment. They will survive the dry season if the water table is high in your location. They feed at sunrise and sunset. 4) Officially marrying a Thai women beyond the white string ceremony is generally not worth it. Even though you may have some legal benefits, if she and the family wants you gone you won't want to stay. They can make life impossibly unbearable if they are of poor character. You are dealing with a community not an individual. ... Good luck. 🙏
