Great interview, being a 53 year old Irishman from Wexford I can draw so many parallels with Alan, going to Dublin in the 80's to the Sound Cellar to buy records and McGonagles and Bruxelles, good times... still a full on metalhead to this day.

Love it brother. I'm glad I found this channel. I was sharing your offended video and then one came up a short version of this I guess and I didn't know you have a podcast all right. Keep up the great work. So glad I found this fairly cerebral humble brag LOL oxymoron mostly more on on my part

Alan is quite an articulate speaker (for an Irishman, ha!) so is always enjoyable to listen to.

"I probably could but it's that head on her..." Made me legitimately laugh out loud!! 😆 Great interview (more of an intimate chat, really). Alan's reasons for choosing "liberty" over "freedom" are valid, too. Freedom is entirely subjective... You want to be free? Free to, or free from? You want to be free to play Cannibal Corpse on full volume at 4am, while your neighbours want to be free from having to hear it.

Great conversation with Alan! So cool that you mentioned that 2003 tour with Primordial. I flew over from the USA to see a few dates on that tour. It was my first time in Europe and first time seeing Primordial. I met Alan and Ciaran and some of the guys from Ancient Rites and Thyrfing, but don't think I met you. But I remember you drumming because I was like "hey, that's not Simon!" lol. Great times.

I'm in a band since 2002, we've played one gig outside Ireland and only have 2 albums. I guess I have to consider the band surviving that long it's greatest success.

34:10 that's so right, and that's mainly the reason why I don't consider myself a metalhead anymore. Today is just narcissism and just focus on making a product, everyone seems so technically anal. By far too many bands with nothing to say and too many bands in general. Talking about Neurosis, I did a mistake of taking acid before going to see them, that was a difficult evening haha... I got to the end of this talk, even though I'm not that much into metal anymore, listening to people reminiscing about the old days does caress me with nostalgia.

...I was 7 in '99 Jesus fuckin wept. STEVEN! I am so glad that you are in what seems to be a much better place than when I saw you in Melbourne in 2015 during the Melbourne comedy festival (I could be off a few years there) Me and my mates came up to say g'day after the show, and after you guessed we were in a prog metal band (I wish), we went on our merry way, cheeks still sore from laughing our asses off, (not laughing on the inside) from the only show we wanted to catch at the festival that year I still to this day use your metaphor surrounding depression, and seeing your take on depression helped me claw my way tooth and nail to the other side of my own fray with the black dog. So I wanted to say thank you for showing me it was ok to talk about that shite. Loving the podcasts sir, Hope to see you on stage again soon. Take care of yourself man🤟🤟🤟
