The removable swivel hub is such a nice design feature of the Landrover front diff. I wish the Landcruisers had this design (provided OEM was always available). The swivel hub housing on Landcruisers is welded on at the factory.

never known a series swivel suffer catastrophic failure no matter what make they over here in the uk. how ever I have witnessed 2 failures of genuine coil sprung swivels. the old series swivels are much larger in diameter around the neck than than later coil sprung types.

Geoff, I've fitted a few sets of those Britpart aftermarket swivel units without any problems at all, used simply down to the price difference- I guess it depends just how hard you work your Land Rover, so NOS parts absolutely make sense for your vehicles. Interestingly, I used to have loads of problems with Britpart components but of late, they seem to have really upped their game and the problems seem to be with other aftermarket brands, rubber components in particular.

Hi Steamwally. I hope all is going well with your fleet? You are right it does come down to how you are using your Land Rover, counting rivets?, Sunday Coffee? :) or daily driver. I do agree BritPart has picked up its game, but good rubber parts as you say are hard to get. Cheers Geoff

Geoff you can get the swivel hubs re chromed in Perth anyone in the hard chrome industry should be able to do them. I had a pair done a few years back and their still good. When l had mine done they told me they used to do lots years ago but don’t see too many these days. Tony

We had exactly the same thing. Put the new swivel in the press ready to press the bush in to place, lined up the bush and it just fell in, before I’d even switched on the press… also noticed that they hadn’t prepared the casting before chroming, so it was all covered in casting marks and had flat spots. You wouldn’t mind so much if they weren’t safety critical and didn’t cost a fortune.. I wish I could find some new old stock Leland ones.. KInd regards to Seriously SEries from the UK

i managed to get a good 2nd hand one , with rakio bush in it , which was a bit worn ,but still ok , the other side i got brit part ,and new rakio bush ,even putting bush in freezer and swivel in oven[low] was still very tight, so had to lightly sand bush ! then it went in , i would say genuine rakio bush too and pin ,the 2nd hand genuine parts were better than new ones!

If there are firms there which sell refurbed swivel housings, can't you ask them to refurb yours and send them back? This what I do with my gearboxes having had a rogue exchange box. Even the reputable reconditioning firm couldn't get it right (jumping out of gear) and they gave me a 2nd exchange box. If they refurb your part you know it'll be good.

You can but it is along wait (12months) as they only do them in large batches and they tend to loose them. Good point though. Cheers Geoff

hi geoff, i wpuld like to suggest another approach to solve the problem. this swivelhubs housings are not rocket science. give it a shot to let it b4 rebuild by a mecanic, with good lathe skills. i've let it done 3 years ago, working fine.

There was a bloke in south Australia that re-chromed them and mine came back perfect and they were my knuckles but his no longer around

Can you imagine the disappointment of carrying spare king pin bearings across the country and actually needing to do a remote trackside repair to find out the bearings don’t fit 😢

That's why LandRover owners do know so many bush mechanics - and LandCruiser owners do enjoy to know so many bored wives of overworked bush mechanics. Or so they say ...
