I would agree that its a true contradiction but statements only exist in the world of concepts. Not some real universal abstract objects. So aaying rhat its not a true statement doesnt really correspond to anything in reality. Thus classical logic can still be preserved for things outside of language and abstract thought

What absolute foolishness. Any self-referential statement ("This statement is false") is inherently MEANINGLESS! At that point we stop. Just stop. What complete stupid nonsense.

I don't know too much. But are you saying statements like "This statement has five words" and "This statement is written in Spanish" are meaningless? They seem meaningful to me. The first is true and the second is false.

So..........If I make the statement "I am aware" is that MEANINGLESS?????? No. It's self referential isn't it? Yes, "that statement was self referential." Laaaaterrrr

Alex Franco : Both of those 2 statements are not really self referential in the same way; we can check their truth by making a single copy of the statement and then mentally parsing the copy in a different way to that in which we mentally parsed the original statement.

I used to think this, but my mind was changed when I heard about Russell's paradox. It is essentially the question: "does the set of all sets that do not contain themselves contain itself?" This is actually a paradox. A simpler version goes like this: There is an island where there is one barber and many men (other than the barber) who do not shave themselves. The barber only shaves every man who does not shave himself (he doesn't shave men who do shave themselves). If the barber shaves every man who does not shave himself, does he shave himself? If the barber shaves himself, then it cannot be true that the barber only shaves every man who does not shave himself because the barber is a man who shaves himself. If he doesn't shave himself, then it can't be true that he shaves every man who does not shave himself. See if you can resolve it. I'm convinced it cannot be resolved. If you do, then please let me know because I will be able to sleep easier.

lllULTIMATEMASTERlll The resolution is that the barber doesnt shave every man who does not shave himself.
