Is Deng Ai alt name Deng Fan? No idea if it's not this one. I think he was considering it from a book he read or something like that.

@@r.assawa7840 Here's what I found: Deng Ai was from Jiyang County (棘陽縣), Yiyang Commandery (義陽郡), which is around present-day Xinye County, Henan. He was born towards the end of the Eastern Han dynasty and lost his father at a young age. When the warlord Cao Cao conquered northern Jing Province in 208, Deng Ai moved to Runan Commandery (汝南郡; in present-day southern Henan), where he lived as a farmer and raised cattle. When he was 11 years old, he and his mother passed by Chen Shi's tomb in Yingchuan Commandery (潁川郡; around present-day Xuchang, Henan). He read two lines engraved on Chen Shi's tombstone: "his writings became examples of excellent prose; his conduct served as a role model for scholar-officials" (文為世範，行為士則). He was so inspired that he wanted to change his given name to Fan (literally "(role) model") and his courtesy name to Shize (literally "for scholar-officials to emulate"). However, since the names Fan and Shize were already used by members of his extended family, he could not change his names as such because it would violate the naming taboo.[4] Wikipedia page on Deng Ai

A huge part of the Rise of Jin is the fact Sima Yi live for way too long. Had he died sooner Jin would probably never be a dynasty. Sima Yi sons is really brazen with their ambition

The coup of the Sima family to eventually overthrow the Cao family is probably the part of the three kingdoms era I know the least amount, so this is great stuff. I'm learning a lot and loving it. The answer to the question is Deng Fan. maybe. Am not sure 😅 i vaguely remember the story that Deng Ai wanna change his given name after a visit to a well-respected scholars grave (his name escapes me,sorry). Fan was Deng Ai's choice. but he got to keep his courtesy name.

Looking at your list of ranks in the Wei court, it makes sense that Sima Yi would lose his title of Supreme Commander. We can all agree, after all, that it'd be a bit too much for Sima Yi to hold a title that could be read as "Big Sima"

Great vid as always! The answer to your question is he wanted to change his GIVEN name to 'Fan', and change his courtesy name to 'Shize' after being inspired by reading Chen Shi's tomb epitaph. Guess he liked the idea of being a 'role model scholar'. Question: is it the same Chen Shi who couldn't hold office because of being critical to the Eunuchs during the Disasters of Partisan Prohibitions?

i just wonder: can the Wei court grant Sima Yi the title of Duke, or that rank is reserved only to members of the imperial clan? secondly, why Cao Shuang didn't take the chance to lead some "easy" assignments, like lifting the siege of Fan? He needs some military track record, and those could provide him the necessary leverage at court

1. Duke usually isn’t giving out lightly. It’s one of those things that borders too much power aka Cao Cao. 2. For someone with no military experience, fighting against an all out Wu attack is probably not an easy mission.

Hey Serious Trivia, Is there any records of Deng Ai's appearance and was he very tall and muscular with dark skin seen in Dynasty Warriors or was he skinny and short around 5 feet and shown in Advisors Alliance?
