I really don't understand why there's this big obssession with their relation as friends or not. Serj is still a normal human like Daron and the others, in real life we really dont care when someone (Jorge) doesn't like someone else (other Jorge), so why its important when its about famous people? If I was on TV and they asked me about my coworkers, if they were my friends or not, I would say "yeah we cool and stuff, bff forever", because doing the opposite creates stupid drama about smt silly. No one should be forced to be friends with everyone, even if they are your coworkers or pals in a band.

I am a huge fan of SOAD. Seeing Serj Tankian take the others apart of SOAD as friends is the best thing you can do. Friendship is more important than trying to keep a band together and work on albums. Who knows. They might eventually come around and think let's make another album for not only the fans but to have fun as friends.

I honestly agree with Serj; Daron might be the 'leader' but everyone knows that although Serj was not the main contributor (they all are) he was truly the main commercial hook that got to be worldwide famous because of the power and uniqueness of his voice and look. Also, Daron was trying to hard to make everyone understand to feel that SOAD was his band and that Serj was merely the voice, and that's not fair.

Daron did write most of the music, but I got into them for Serj. The last two albums were too Daron Heavy for my liking, I only bought one of them and I can't even remember which cause I never really listened to it. I always liked his harmonies, not his lead singing. Serj is the Voice of System regardless of who writes the music.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that fans shouldn’t voice their wishes. It’s just I think there’s no blame on anyone if those wishes are never fulfilled. You know? As much as I would love to hear and see the day another System record comes out, I am glad it has not been released under the current happenings within the band. Serj makes a great analogy in this video comparing two friends who are painters who are tasked with working together on the same piece. At the end of the day, their friendship remains intact and they both agree that their personal perspectives and visions differ to the point where collaboration would ultimately result in a finished piece that would be disappointing to a majority of viewers and the artist’s themselves. So many bands have been torn apart internally because of the inability to realize this. The outcome is often enough a record that disappoints the fans and artists. Prior to the mp3/cd burner revolution, there were many times a band was manipulated by their record label to go in a completely different direction which is sad enough in its own right. My $.02.

Once the painting is done the painter stops painting it. Not sure how the way I view something is bullshit but congratulations on starting a successful band I guess Edit: and yes a lot of the time you have more than one painter

I like seeing serj's point on that and I kind of agree being an artist myself who collabs with other artists sometimes who are my friends first and fellow artists second. sometimes we disagree on what we should do but we still are friends first
@truuuupR4 жыл бұрын
I agree that creatively we can all not see eye to eye. I also would say that having the inability to get past that and come to some sort of compromise for the greater good shows there's some serious ego's involved. Serj, whilst well spoken, always seems to have an almost egotistical undertone when it comes to talking about SOAD. My 2 cents anyway.

Come on Serj I know you guys can meet in the middle. I never expected that anything new would sound the same as the rest of SOADs catalog and that's what I love about music. I'm an artist and most of my drawings look like they were each drew by different people because we age and grow and taste change. I'll take anything from you guys I just wanna hear it. How much you want? I'll pay without even hearing it. I'm 46 now and I remember over 20 years ago seeing SOAD in Atlanta and they gave us a cassette and didn't even have a CD yet and I wore it out!

Loving System of a Down and wanting another record to me is sort of like loving a great movie and wanting a sequel. You have this great experience and you don’t want the ride to end. But sometimes it’s okay for it to end, especially on a high note.

Just create a double album. It doesn't even need to have more than 10 or 11 songs on each side (like the Mezmerize and Hypnotize albums). One side will be all the songs created when Serj had 100% full/creative control, and the other side will be with Daron having 100% full/creative control. Even this type of arrangement wouldn't upset fans, because it would still be better than nothing! This is what Outkast did with their 2003 double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, and it was met with widespread critical acclaim, and is their most commercially successful album to date!
