During Snocore, when SOAD was touring with Incubus, Shavo met us outside the tour bus and went back to my truck to smoke a bowl. Spent 45 minutes just telling me about life on the road and what it was like, just down to earth, great guy.
@matthewshelley13654 жыл бұрын
@D H it was the State theater in Detroit. Got there pretty early. Saw their bus, and decided to walk towards it. As we did, off walks Daron and then Shavo. Daron had somewhere to be, but Shavo took a second to look around. My gf called his name, and he came over. We asked if we could smoke out, and he said we couldn't go on the bus cuz Serj was meditating and he had never played there before so didn't know a good place to roast. So I offered my truck. We walked about a quarter mile to where it was parked, he climbed in the passenger side and we hung out. He complained that being a rock star meant he had no address at the time and that his mom had to collect his mail from a po box. Dude works hard for where he's at. Next time in Matt stories, I partied with Pantera after repairing Morbid Angels drum kit.

Man imagine being in Andy's shoes. Must suck Not being able to play for a band that would end up being worth MILLIONS of dollars (and literally one of the biggest bands of the 2000's) just because he got mad at something and punched a wall. He wasn't a bad drummer at all, pretty decent from what I've heard from the demos. Just sucks that it ended up that way for him. But I'm glad we got John, dude is a beast of a drummer
@featheryfemme4 жыл бұрын
Andy wasn't really right for SOAD's sound anyway, imo. Too '80s-ish for a band in the later '90s. He was getting better, but John really brought them into the modern era.

Oh wow what a great interview! So exciting to know there is more and BETTER live material from the Yerevan show! It's like SOAD does not realize how much we WANT that! They are still a band, but they barely tour, and NOBODY expected any new music from them after 15 years of nothing new. SOAD could have been one of the biggest bands on the planet, but they are still on that 15 year pause, bickering about what to do next. A real break up would have fans less STARVING for more SOAD. True story: back in around 2012 I was with shavo at his studio in The valley. I want to say it was in burbank noho area but can't recall really. Met him through a friend. He was prego (his wife) with 2nd child so he end up coming to friends pad with one of those personal 375ml bottle of patron. He was having a "need to get away" moment from things he was saying. Just some personal me-time won't go into details. He told me about the first tour they did I believe they were in Europe. Again this is 12 yrs ago I just specifically remember how he said they were unknown and hated on by the fans that were at the concerts to see other acts. So when they'd go on, concert-goers would disrespect em by turning their heads looking away from stage. At that one event, one of the first in that initiating tour, he mentioned how the band looked at each other and decided to replay the same song over n over n over n over again like 5x. It was a sort of gotcha reciprocating the disrespect. Things got heated with fans throwing drinks, they got off before it got physical. Fast forward during that same tour, something major happened (again this is not home turf so when this happened, they didn't have much of an understanding why the dynamics chnaged). They get on stage and tight before, they huddled and agreed that if shit was anything like that other show and things come flying, they'd leave right out. And people were brutal at those events, they saw blades and sharp objects littered on stage. This is in late 90s,before socials before iPhone before internet being in every household It was at this event that he got goosebumps as he was telling the story and said how they went out on stage to an audience chanting SYSTEM! SYSTEM! SYSTEM! Hope yall enjoy that story and feel free to chime in if you know of it. May have minor details off but it was a crazy day. I believe it was either a superbowl event or a ufc fight. This was months before I went to my first and only soad concert at Hollywood Bowl. Whats hilarious is how when we went to his studio, this muhfo was just getting into djing some techno beats. Like straight Detroit techno but he was not new to it. So the alcy deff got him to be free and enjoying himself openly. Also the #22 is huge with me too. I figured he was born on that day like I was when he started 22 red and I DM him and got the response how he sees the number very dominantly everywhere like I do. The 2/22/22 event was also on a Tuesday. 2222222 going up, on a twos day OH and he had the creepiest doll figures at his studio lol

Mike Geniole 2nd Channel are they on bad terms? i didn’t know that
@burgerwithfries62794 жыл бұрын
@@Ohokk0 Yeah, their current underlying conflict is a main reason why System isn't producing more music. To the best of my knowledge, it started back in 2004 or so when they were making Mesmerize/Hypnotize. Daron wanted to be more controlling in the music-making (you can notice he has a LOT more vocals in those 2 albums), while Serj wanted everyone to be involved. Serj himself stated that he wasn't as close to the music on their last 2 albums compared to the other ones. So, after Hypnotize, they went their separate ways, with Serj working independently and Daron joining Scars on Broadway. There are also monetary issues, as the members are not getting equal shares of money for the work SOAD has produced, but that's a whole nother matter. Basically, the beef is between Serj and Daron at the moment, while Shavo and John are just kinda twiddling their thumbs on the sidelines waiting for them to get along. Obviously its more complicated than that, but that's just a quick synopsis. Do some additional research on your own to go in-depth.
