Thank you for this. Very helpful. Something one of my paedobaptist brothers pointed out: I will point out that having an upcoming baptismal service, Dr. White made reference to, seems to go against the NT pattern too...we see over and over baptisms happening immediately after repentance and belief...not having to wait for a certain Sunday/service.... Thoughts on that? Thanks!

I think it is a logistical matter. When are people going to able to gather for a babtism, and how are they to be baptised? The church building has a pool for baptism, and eveyone is going to be there on Sunday. Also, those pools hold a lot of water, and it takes a while to fill them. They aren't designed to hold water continually.

As a reformed baptist, what do we do with infants/toddlers/children? I know what I believe and hold to, but there's very little discussion about this. I'd be curious to hear James White's thoughts on that.

Focusing in on the way the physical part of the baptism is performed is the same as focusing in on cutting off foreskin, washing your hands before a meal, not eating pork and many other things that clearly didn't matter to Jesus. Did you not just say it's what's in the heart that matters in this sermon. I don't know man, I don't think someone if going to go to hell if their heart is right with God and they confess and repent, but didn't get fully submerged. This whole full submersion thing is the same superficial stuff Jesus preached against.

Nowhere in the bible is it stated clearing how baptism is done. Most pastors say that when Jesus was baptized He came out the water, so they automatically agree that it was immersion. If you have lived near a stream, because of erosion we have a lower and upper grounds. The bible didn't say He rose up out of the river, but rather came out. So logically Jesus stepped out from the lower ground of the river unto the banks, the higher ground. Nowhere in the old testament is baptism found to be by immersion, but by sprinkling and pouring; even on the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit baptism was poured on the followers of Jesus. It's by faith, and faith alone. John the Baptist said that he baptized people unto repentance, but Jesus would baptized people with the Holy Spirit and fire. It is God Who does the baptism, not people or pastors.

@@gaildrake5940 hi, Gail, thanks so much. Remember what Nathaniel said about Jesus, coming from Nazareth? Our Lord grew up in the north... no automatic permission to come down to southern Judah to preach in their synagogues & temples. Right? Look what the Pharisees said to him in the temple when he stood up to preach - by what “authority” are you preaching? And Jesus’ answer was a question right back at them: ‘What about John’s baptism?’ The key here, Gail, is to put Jesus circumcised on his 8th day; Mary’s sin offering of two turtle doves; and Jesus being baptized in the ‘living water’ of the Jordan - in front of “many” Pharisees and Sadusees (Mark 3:8) all in to the dogmatic rules of the day there to become a member of Israel. Without those 3 requirements fulfilled, Jesus wouldn’t have had authority to get passed the front gates into the temple to stand up inside to preach. What say you, Gail? This has been my investigation thus far. Hear from you soon.

. Baptism was instituted because the children of Israel, despite the fact that they went through the Red sea, and then threatened God that they would return to Egypt, and made good their threats in Numbers 14:4 and Jeremiah 42:1, 43:4,7, and Johanan was in charge. So, God brought back Elijah - who was supposed to bring them back to God - but dropped the ball and now had to complete it through John the Baptist. He came baptizing to bring Israel back from Egypt- so to speak (Jesus as the Son, had to be taken back to Egypt and was brought back to the promised land). Thus by deciding to get baptized, they're showing to God that they repented of their decision, and now accept the One they sent to be their Messiah and King, as the Son of Man (David), and the Son of God, who will then fulfill God's will to Israel Exodus 19:6; 1 Peter 2:9(written only to the Jews). Acts 10, and 19:6; 11: 6, God sent His Holy Spirit directly to Cornelius and his family, despite the fact that they hadn't been baptized, but, He didn't tell Peter to go baptize them, (as He wasn't instructed to go replace the 12th desciple, which he did through divination). Philip baptized the Ethiopian Eunuch Acts 8:26-38, because they're considered to be part of Israel, (and God was rewarding the good deed of Ebed-Meleck in keeping Jeremiah alive- Jeremiah 38:6-13; 39:15-18; Isaiah 56:3, just like He rewarded Phinehas Numbers 25). Jesus came to baptize with the Holy Spirit. The fire baptism would be for those who do not receive His free gift of salvation, through the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom- for Israel, and the gospel of grace- for both Jews and Gentiles, who believe in God, and are saved by grace through faith in the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. (By going back to Egypt, Israel nullified the whole purpose of passover, and crossing the Red sea and Jordan, thus they were given the law whereby every sin must be personally atoned for through the institution of the Priesthood, who brought the blood of the sacrificial animals before God. This became moot, as they did as they pleased, bringing sick polluted sacrifices. God stopped honoring them until Jesus came, went back to Egypt, came out, and fulfilled God's word, " out of Egypt have I called my Son." So, whosoever believes in Him is baptized into Him, by tge Holy Spirit, and took on the adoption of sons John 1:12-14, ushering in "the acceptable year of the Lord " or the preparation of the body of Christ- the Church, made up of both Jews and Gentiles. Romans 3; Ephesians chapters 1-4. So, all believers need to do is simply abide in Him by grace, through faith in His sacrificial death, burial and resurrection from the dead, until the redemption of His purchased possession!

God became silent during this period because Abraham had not asked God's opinion before going into her. God made a covenant with him Genesis 12; Genesis 15. But he went into Hagar in Genesis 16, so God punished him with the sign of circumcision, to deter him from making the mistake of going into another strange woman, which may bring future confusion concerning the promised Seed. The Godhead had to come down physically in Genesis 18, in order for Abraham to have physical fellowship with them, as a witness of His eternal being, so Abraham could relate to God with knowledge. The descendants of the promised Seed were judged by being kept in captivity by the seed of Hagar for 400 years ( 430 years, because Moses acted hastily and didn't ask from God how to go about his commission. The currency of the Kingdom is always A.S.K- ask, seek knock). Abraham went in to Keturah without asking from God, and God became silent throughout the relationship. Knowing the mind of God about the promised Seed and promised land, as God had him "telling " the stars and imagining his descendants as the sand by the seashore, he again was trying to help God, but he must have told the other children about the original star, through which they would gain access into his inheritance. Genesis 18:18. Abraham sent them far away to the East, from the promised land. They only returned by the leading of the Star over Bethlehem, and they bowed down and worshipped the "Child " that was born Matthew 2:11 ( He was the only one in the entire Bible to accept the worship of man, even angels wouldn't). God then made a way for gentiles to be heirs of God and fellow-heirs with Christ, by the adoption of Sons John 1:12-14; Romans 8:9,14,17.

Israel was baptized unto Moses, by crossing the Red sea 1 Corinthians 10:1-2. Believers are baptized into Christ, by the Holy Spirit, through the faith of the Believer in Christ. Galatians 3:24-29; Romans 6:2-10; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, all are talking about baptism by faith, not water. Whosoever puts their faith and trust in the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, is already circumcised and baptized into Him by the very circumcision and baptism of Jesus Christ. He already perfected everything that pertains to life and godliness for all Believers until He returns as promised to redeem His purchased possession and present them faultless before the presence of God the Father, in heavenly places! Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians chapters 1-5; Colossians chapters 1-4 etc.

The true gospel is the good news of the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, it is concerning who Christ is and what He did to save His elect. The gospel includes the how and why, which can only be seen by faith. It is a message that declares how the eternal Son of God came down, took on a body of sinless flesh (John 1:14) as He was born of a virgin (Mat 1:23). He was both God and man in one Person. He was born under the Law to keep and fulfill it (Mat 5:18, Gal 4:4). He did that, not for Himself, but for all those He represented because they could not keep it themselves. The word of God calls these people the elect or His sheep, among several other names. His obedient life also included the part of dying. He took on the sin of His people as both a Substitute and Representative of those people. The Bible said He was "made to be sin" (II Cor 5:21) and the way that was done is by God imputing (legally reckoned or charged to the account of) sin to Christ. That means all the sin of all those people God chose was "laid on Him" (Isaiah 53:6). This sin was legally transferred to His account and He then owned it in such a way to be guilty of it all. God the Father poured out His wrath and hatred toward sin on His Son and had pleasure (Isaiah 53:10) in doing so, in that, He was completely satisfied in Christ as a Sacrifice that met all the demands of His strict Law and inflexible justice. Christ finished the work of paying the penalty of the Law and then said " It is finished" (John 19:30). He secured salvation for all God’s chosen people that would even be born. His resurrection is evidence of the acceptance of His sacrifice to the Father. The combined work of His obedience to the Law and His obedience unto death on the cross was considered establishing righteousness. This is what one of the Old Testament prophets prophesied as "bringing in an everlasting righteousness" (Daniel 9:24) as Christ died effectually and exclusively for those chosen of God before the world began (Eph 1:4). This righteousness is what God imputes to His people in the context of giving the life to believe in Christ. This puts them in a state called "Justification" and as a result they are eternally secure, in Christ. This is the gospel (Rom 1:16-17). All this takes place in such a way to show God as both a God of justice and a Savior. This is how grace reigns through righteousness (Rom 5:21).

By jesus christ power i debaptize you off. Jesus name I debaptize you off. Take the gross water off take all elements off. None that all dry and clear that. We only need Spirit no elements and corruption. All we need is Prayer and Spirit. Keep it dry no elements.

@@sebastianfischer498 you can't reject it in fact Jesus never said to baptize really in fact the story and acts really is the apostles or the disciples acting on their own free will and we know the ending of Mark doesn't say that it ends with verse 8 just like the end of Matthew doesn't say it either it just says make disciples it says nothing about acts in fact we already know that's not the case many touched by water and many converts also I did it early on and even in Middle ages you're just going by fake traditions of water magic

Calvinism is illogical. Why do you get baptized if you were supposedly “predestined” to Heaven and cant lose your salvation? Hahahaha

Many are called... but few are Chosen! So this means that there is a Book of Life that already contains those name of the Chosen... But However, God will show Mercy on those who Come In Faith and Fear Him as in Malachi 3:16 Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who esteem His name. ‘They will be Mine,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him. So because all are not Chosen... By Faith and Fear of the Lord... They might have an opportunity to come into Grace!
