the preaching was good, I liked the idea of getting a wider view of verse 39 without cutting it off. But I remember that paedobaptists connect the promise to the children with the promise of Joel 2 which is also quoted in Peter's preaching, and in doing so they demonstrate that Peter's daughters prophesied, and then this is all put in the same cake to connect the baptism to the children. I'll keep watching the other videos to see if this gets commented on as well.

@Apologia, I hope you guys do a show on Unitarianism. I've got some close inlaws that are former Pentecostal that are full fledge 'Jesus was created, is Messiah, but is not God' unitarians in the family. They keep trying to convince my in-laws to abandon Trinitarianism. I've answered how Jesus could die if He's God, why He got tired, I've let them know the disciples viewed Him as God and worshipped Him, I've explain why hell is eternal, etc. But I know a great teaching refuting Unitarian beliefs would be helpful. Seems it's the latest repeating fad.

I was baptized (or 'Christened') as a baby even though my family are not professing Christians...at least not properly. They're more like cultural Christians but don't attend a church or anything. Back then, it was more of a tradition that has started to go out of fashion lately. Even though I intend on being re-baptized by immersion, I am grateful for what my parents did.

The far off ones is Gentiles! Get this correct to prove to cults (Like INC and Mormons etc) that they do not have any proof for their twisting of such verses to make them fit their 19 and 20 century exclusive "true churches". This is the clearness: Act 2:39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off(Makran in the greek), everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” Jesus himself inside the same book shows us who this group are. Act 22:21 And he said to me, ‘Go, for I will send you far away(Makran) to the Gentiles.’” Paul witnesses to the same in Eph 2 (read it) and in v. 13 and 17 we have also Makran Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off (Makran) have been brought near by the blood of Christ Eph 2:17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off (Makran, (Gentiles)) and peace to those who were near (Jews). Eph 3:6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. All this ties into Jesus himself, like James said, the other sheep. The other sheep in John 10 is the Gentiles! Can you appreciate the red thread here, Jesus, Peter(unknowingly even in Acts 2:39, but by the Spirit), and Paul. Preaching the one and same truth.

@@jeremybamgbade - "explaining" - You're failing at it, but okay. No apostle ever once baptized anyone who hadn't first believed and repented.
@jeremybamgbade3 жыл бұрын
@@timbushong4387 Where is the repentance in Acts 16:15? Or 1Corinthians 1:14? All we know from THESE verses, is that the head of household repented, and the house hold was baptized (sorta like Exodus 12:48 eh?) . You have to read into those instances “they all professed beforehand”. And if you relied on the Phillipian jailor narrative, you’d be guilty of the inductive fallacy otherwise known as the “fallacy of composition” assuming that what was true in one case, must be true of all. Consider, that all baptisms of adults in the NT are of converts. Well, that principle, in which adults receive the sign of the covenant upon a profession of faith - isn’t new. In the Old covenant (which baptists conflate with the Abrahamic) gentile converts received Circumcision (which didn’t come from moses but the patriarchs, PLURAL /John7:22) which was the sign that signaled “righteousness” with respect to the man converted and consequently Circumcised. (as I demonstrated in my long comment elsewhere on this video). This being the case, the baptist can ascertain nothing from these “believers baptism” passages that answers or even tacitly addresses the question as to what should be done with the children of baptized converts. We paedos argue, that since the sign of conversion was applied to converts’ children under the old covenant (which is just a different administration of the covenant of grace, grounded in the Abrahamic covenant) and since there is no explicit prohibition of applying the new covenant sign of conversion to believers’ children, it is consistent to stick with the already established principle, namely that Children of believers are to be regarded as members of the visible church, and should receive the sign that makes them so. Baptists who argue that the “church” started in acts 2 are just plain wrong. Just pick up the Septuagint, where the Hebrew word translated “assembly” is translated “ekklessia” which in our english NT bibles is translated as “church”. Whether it’s the old covenant or new, the visible church has always been made up of professing Christians. And, no, bringing up Jeremiah 31:31-34 and the New covenant will not help your case, because if your baptist application of those verses were true, then some of these promises would have to be judged as failed prophecies. Because clearly, the promise includes things like promising that we would no more teach our neighbor saying “know the Lord” which can’t be the case NOW seeing that we are COMMANDED to EXHORT one another DAILY (Heb 3:13). The other promises like “I will be their God” was a promise enjoyed by the elect of the OT and thus it is nothing new. Whether we consider individuals like Noah, enoch, Abraham, or CORPORATE revivals as is seen in Nehemiah 8-9, “I will be their God” again, is a promise that was already enjoyed by the elect. The baptists interpretation of Jer 31 cant account for the “already not yet” and the fact that what is contrasted in Jeremiah 31 ISNT the Abrahamic covenant and the new, but the Mosaic covenant and the new -as it can never be said that yahweh didn’t care for the “fathers” as in the patriarchs. Clearly its the “fathers” who came out of Egypt as in that first generation who did not enter the promised land (Heb4:2) who yahweh was sore displeased with and “cared not” for. What about “I will forgive their iniquity”? God forgave the iniquity of saints that were under the Old covenant and the iniquity of saints that preceded the old covenant. Enoch and Noah were justified by faith alone. Abraham quite obviously was justified by faith. Isaiahs sins were forgiven (Isaiah 6) Joshua the high priests sins were taken away (zech3) Paul quotes david as David speaking in the present tense with respect to himself, and the man to whom “God imputes no iniquity” (Compare Romans 4:8 to Psalm 32:1-2). The saints of old were able to have their sins forgiven because although The actualization of Jesus’s sacrifice was yet future, he is said to be slain “from the foundation of the world” (Rev13:8). So in all this, baptists sorely misapply the meaning of the New Covenant promises in Jeremiah 31. Back to Circumcision, if you attempted to minimize the role of circumcision to the mosaic covenant, or if you desired to make the mosaic covenant exhaustive of everything Circumcision pointed to, you would be guilty of a categorical fallacy. Circumcision preceded Moses and the Mosaic covenant. We are not told in Gen 17, that Circumcision was given to distinguish Abrahams physical seed from “surrounding nations” (Israel didn’t exist yet) nor did it have anything to do with the Levitical priesthood and its attendant ordinances that wouldn’t come for another half millennium. And since paul calls the Abrahamic covenant “the gospel” (Gal3:8) and since the sign of that covenant was circumcision (Acts7:8) it follows that circumcision was a sign of the Gospel. Thus, the onus is on the baptist to prove that the LATER (as in almost 500 yrs later) tying together of the mosaic covenant to Circumcision-superseded or eradicated circumcisions primary and original significance. In short, all of the commonly adduced “mosaic covenant arguments” for rejecting circumcision as being a sign of the gospel (as baptism is now) fall to the ground, because the mosaic covenant is irrelevant with respect to the rites origination and Spiritual significance being from the Abrahamic covenant - which the mosaic covenant could in no way disannul (Gal3:16-18). I have seen no baptist deal with this argument because….well …Because they really can’t. Also, you are making the same error that James White makes, one that is excusable for you, but not so excusable for him. Being a seminarian, he ought to know better than to use narratives, as axiomatic predication for his arguments, over and against didactic teachings that are clearly laid down. In short, he is doing theology backwards when he teaches on baptism. How about instead of responding to THIS thread, you respond to the OTHER thread where I systematically deal with Whites arguments. You can there show me where I have erred, either with respect to the cogency of my argument, or the validity of my premises.

Non-sequitur. If you have predestined your next vacation to be in France, does it follow that you don't need to do anything else; like schedule time off, reserve plane tickets, book a hotel, actually fly there, etc? No of course not. You have to follow through with that choice and fulfill the predestination. Being saved isn't just God putting a checkmark next to our names and otherwise leaving us exactly the same, but is a whole process God does for his people, and it includes promises given in covenant signs to his people.
