With 5htp people take way too high of a dosage! It's nice to start out low like 10-20mg and taking it around 12-1pm is best because the serotonin boost is actually stimulating, have it with green tea for the ECGC. Later on, the serotonin will be able to be converted to melatonin and you will have better sleep as well! This is a good time because 5htp can raise cortisol levels, and we start to trickle down cortisol in the afternoon!

I would like to suggest this lecture demonstrates why a person's diet should be examined before going the pharmaceutical rout. For example how much tryptophan is in a vegan diet vs a diet that includes animal products: milk, beef, fish, chicken. These are the highest foods in tryptophan. Look at the actual milligrams per gram, not just weather or not a food contains tryptophan.

Are thete natural ways to increase 5-HT e.g. MDMA ?
@philipm3173

Meditation. MDMA will actually leave your 5-ht levels lower (well technically it will downregulate the receptors) afterwards if used to excess.

I was thinking that anxiety is learned behavior not chemical imbalance?

@@-Datboijj- what about people who get ptad related anxiety, or other situational anxiety. There are also hard wired changes that take place over time (like OP said learned behavior) to increase a propensity for anxiety. And hard wired genetic issues. There's also chemical imbalances resulting from chronic trauma. And sometimes it is purely an organic chemical imbalance. But that's certainly not the only cause.

@@-Datboijj- didn't know that you were a psychologist lel. Anywho, if it were all chemical unbalances then no amount of cognitive behavioral therapy would work. Guess what? It does! If it can be unlearned than it can be learned. :)
@user-jm3ob3hl2t
@user-jm3ob3hl2t 3 жыл бұрын
It's a learned behavior because no one is born with chronic anxiety. Anxiety causes chemical changes in the brain when it happens. The amygdala releases nenorephorine and addernaline and if it happens constantly those pathways in the brain are more easily activated which is an inappropriate response. Basically a chemical imbalance due to the way some people's brain developed and is caused by stress and trauma previously.

@2:16 5HT1A -is it presynaptic or postsynaptic??? .... I thought it is presynaptic as it is a reuptake auto inhibitor via the feedback
@leahwhite1712
@leahwhite1712 2 жыл бұрын
It is my understanding, and I may be wrong so someone correct me If I am: basically, it is both. It is a presynaptic receptor on serotonergic neurons, so neurons whose primary role is to release serotonin. In this way, it is inhibitory and autoregulates (so if 5ht bound to the presynaptic 5ht1a autoreceptor, it inhibits further release of 5ht..negative feedback loop, self-regulating). There are also 5ht1a receptors, primarily in limbic system, that are postsynaptic receptors on neurons whose primary role is to release modulators that are NOT serotonin. This postsynaptic 5HT1A heteroreceptor is also inhibitory, in that it can dampen the limbic system response by ceasing / lessening firing rates, regulating stress/anxiety in that way. So basically, it is found in the brain as both, both a presynaptic autoreceptor and postsynaptic heteroreceptor. Hope this helps!

5-HTP provides a great source of serotonin for the brain to munch on. It is extremely affordable as well.
@SItgix
@SItgix 3 жыл бұрын
please be careful when you spout out misinfirmation online, 5HTP is NOT a good source as it raises systemic serotonin and not only in the brain. 5HTP bypasses tryptophan hydroxylase (the amount of tryptophan metabolized is limited by the body with that process) and can therefore lead to too high serum serotonin levels in the body which have shown to be carcinogenic.
@thealgorithm4429
@thealgorithm4429 3 жыл бұрын
@@SItgix do you have a source for this information? Are you talking about short-term, or long-term use? People who use 5-HTP are already in the "low serum-level" category, they would need heavy long term exposure to face a dangerous level, if taken correctly, under the watch of a physician. I won't believe that high serum-serotonin levels are carcinogenic in humans either, until some reliable source is provided.
