Serpentine Fronted Chest of Drawers

An 18th century serpentine fronted, Chippendale period, mahogany chest of drawers of low proportions. This fine commode chest of drawers having cluster column ends and four long graduated cockbeaded drawers which are lined with oak and cedarwood. later brass handles, shaped bracket feet with concealed Lignum Vitae wheels. panelled back-boards. The whole retains an outstanding colour. English circa 1760 - 65. The dimensions of this well proportioned piece are as follows:
height 82cm, width 96cm and depth 58cm. Showroom reference 809511.

Disappointed ! Such a beautiful and masterful creation ! but using terminology just to sound educated doesn't work if you are wrong ! There isn't one part of this chest that can be identified as/or made of "Flame Mahogany", { which is taken from the crotch or juncture of two limbs of the tree trunk. } There are so many old terms you could have used correctly, but for the contemporary person, you should have just said "Figured Mahogany" as opposed to quarter sawn, {stripes} or plain cut, {arches} and called it a day. The mention of "Oyster" ? ... i don't see where. if you are referring to the perpendicular strip pattern around the drawer face, That's called banding. The triple column details are directly from Chippendale's interest in the "Gothic" revival style as they are taken directly from Gothic architectural building design and would be a welcome terminology word drop....but was a miss instead !

Thank you for your comments and I'm sorry you are disappointed. Just to clarify 'oyster' was never mentioned in this video nor 'quarter sawn'? None of which are part of this piece of furniture. The drawer fronts are not crossbanded, it would have been mentioned if they were. You will see there is crossbanding on the carcass between the drawers. The top is veneered in fiddle back mahogany. I do agree there was an error on my behalf mentioning flame mahogany which may have caused some confusion, but having explained what fiddle back is, I hope this clarified the situation immediately. Unfortunately it is difficult to see the figuring of the fiddle back in the video due to the lighting not being great. I could have mentioned the inspiration behind Chippendale's cluster columns, but my earlier videos were intended to be between 1-2 minutes in order to add to Instagram. It also stops the viewer from getting bored! The point of my videos is showing the article in a brief and informative way that cannot be shown in still photograph's.
