In the early 2000s, I was a complete sinophile. I went all in, taking Mandarin lessons, reading tons of books and researching the culture, the history, preparing a move there. I actually found myself in a similar situation about 10 years ago, working as a manager of a pub in Sydney, located in a suburb with a lot of Asian immigrants & students. One of my Asian staff introduced me to a Chinese lady in her mid-30's who was out here on a student visa "to learn English" (although she literally couldn't speak two words of English), who was looking to hire me to help fix and sell her car. Being a car guy myself I was glad to go around to her place to check out the car & give her some advice; she thanked me and invited me out to dinner (with my staff member tagging along as a translator). So the lady was a solid 5, possible a 6 and was very pleasant, however there was an air of desperation about her and she just seemed too keen; my translator told me up-front that she found me very attractive and wanted me to go back to her place to "get to know each other better". Long story short, I politely declined as there just was something amiss. Anyway, found out later that she was one of these "leftover women" who had forgone marriage whilst young to look after her elderly parents & also to pursue a career and had then found herself unable to find a Chinese husband because she was too old (and not a 9 or 10, which evidently would have helped). She had thus come out to Australia on a student visa on the advice of a friend in order to find a husband, however not to gain residency here on a marriage visa (as I had suspected was her motive) but to bring him back home to China to live with her.

I met a Chinese lady, divorced 1 child. She is 50, I am 57. She is successful and wants me to go to China, I am retiring. So I want her to come to the USA. We finally met in Thailand. She is nice but has lived alone and I have had many talks with her about give and take in marriage. She seems to have listened. We got along great. I could tell she can go loud on those poor Thai. I can heavily relate to your experience. There are also those "leftover" who had an unsuccesful marriage, divorced and looking to clean their family image. The speed at proposing to engage in marriage is something I have never seen anywhere else I lived.

Yeah, same. I've been living in China for 3 years now and I've always found it difficult to date Chinese women because the rush from dating to marriage considerations makes me too uncomfortable, too pressured. On top of that, I already know I don't want to have children which makes it really difficult to find a like-minded Chinese partner, so now I mainly stick to dating other foreigners.

I am surprised you didn't get an offer for the marriage. Back in 2009, I had a relationship just end and I was offered $35k by one friend, and the other offered $37k to marry their cousin and have a life with them, if I wanted. Both were over 25, under 30. I was 20 and simply a broke student. Thankfully, I declined.

I used to tutor mathematics and I had more than one experience where either a mother of a student, or an adult student tried to hit on me. I was usually able to deflect by acting oblivious, and I had a few sudden cancellation of needing my services as a result. For this reason I tried hard to make is a policy to meet only in public libraries and not in homes. For my last year before I got a software engineer job, I worked with an agency that had in-home by assumption. I had only one case of that happening. I had one other home where the client kept bringing up Christian principles, and I did my best to deflect since they had nothing to do with mathematics. I also had a sudden cancellation there. None of my experiences were as direct as yours, but one adult student in particular come really close. I started out with her only in a public library but she manipulated the situation to get me into her home (she was married, btw) and she always served wine during the lessons, which I gladly accepted (because free wine). She also was always in makeup and a dress, but she was eastern european, so I took that as a cultural thing.

had a director at a company I worked for put his hands on my shoulders as I was fixing his computer issues. He started massaging my shoulders. I got through the service call and left his office. So, while i was in a relationship with a female co-worker for a couple years, I was hit on by a female director, lead worker, supervisor, and male, exec director, lead worker, and supervisor. at another job I was also sent cat pictures from a coworker who when I neglected to respond then appologized and said the picture was for her estranged husband. My point is you never know what to say mostly because you are trying to maintain a level of professionalism that has severed you well. It's surreal when it's happening.
