Late game ZvP was already hell for everyone but Serral before the latest patch. Now it's hell for everyone including Serral. The Mothership not being able to be abducted is such a massive change that I feel went under the radar. Don't get me wrong, it was a justified buff, but required much more attention on the Zerg side. I don't think hydras are it, not even with lunge, not even with the 'new' microbial shroud. Not as long as colossi, storm and technically disruptors too, exist. Hydras are simply way too squishy for how much they cost and roaches simply don't scale into the late game as say marauders do for Terran, so they have no protection at all.

!!Warning of spoilers below!!! Im playing Protoss but after watching that first game, and a few others recently, we might actually have an air toss problem. I remember in the past Serral used to just dismantle such a comp with vipers, I wonder what has changed. The mohtership makes such a big difference? Or Protoss build more tempests and Zerg cant rely on vipers so much? ITs really weird to me, because i sepcifically remember Serral demolishing Protoss late game air toss in the past.

In the past, he'd usually choked out Protoss players by spreading creep, getting to max army, and building a ton of extra spores. Even then , I remember someone like Neeb having good games against him. I don't think he got there this game. I don't know if it was really the mothership so much as MaxPax's general aggression that kept him from getting there. Serral did stay on Hydras longer and definitely had fewer queens than he would in those games, so the queen nerf and energy overcharge keeping Protoss a little more safe vs. earlier timings, allowing MaxPax to stay agressive, may be the biggest change. In any event, I like the Mothership change. Just watching it get yoinked and killed in 2 seconds wasn't really as much fun to watch :)

@@johnmartorana196 I agree. MaxPax ususally plays so aggressive, that the zerg dosent have time to build up the sporeforrest, or build broodlords to threaten the archons/high templar on the ground. The new mothership makes it even more difficult, its not just about the fact, that it can no longer be abducted, its also a decent fighting unit on its own now.

@@firestarter000001 fortunately now that the mothership's attacks actually matter it's a lot easier to make balance adjustments without totally reworking the unit. That said, I think it's a little premature to be calling the game broken. Lets give the players a few months to see if the meta stabilizes in a good place.

55:00 it seems that Zergs only option IS for agression - because I don't see a way how Zerg can stand up against the late game Toss army. Zergs Anti-Air is too weak against a non-abductable mothership that is protected by storms + archons. The only chance is that the Toss screws it up badly, but if you play against somebody like MaxPax that's not exactly a winning strategy, is it? I've no idea what the balance council is smoking, but IMO they should take less of it.

I feel like Zerg has to go hyperaggressive regardless, simply because their early game is almost entirely based around minimizing harass, because Oracles can get way too much damage without Protoss micro mistakes. Late game is bad; early game is hard. Midgame is the only place Zerg feels like it has a chance against a similarly skilled Protoss.

i've been away from the sc2 world for a while now. one thing i'm noticing watching recent videos is that protoss seems pretty weak and struggling to make ends meet. Am i wrong ou is this really a thing? not criticizing btw

Early game Toss is weak, late game sky toss is very strong. You just need to survive to that point. ON the contrast Zerg early game is about droning up so they can take over Midgame. If Zerg cant secure the win before late game, their chances of winning drops lower and lower. Terran it seems to be about how good they can harass while building up a bioball + tanks. If the harass does decent damage or disrupts the opponent enough, a bioball + tanks will roll them over dead. That is what I have picked up so far.

IDK as i mentioned ive been away a while, but the vibe i get is protoss are struggling to get results other races reach with less effort, micro or resources
