@47:29, if you pause the game and play it forward slowly, and watch the widow mine targeting, you can see that maru is manually targeting the widow mines to attack the center of the clump of zerg. That's why maru was retreating his marines instead of stutter stepping his marines away. He wasn't stutter stepping because he was busy targeting his mines.

clem and maru are microing their mines and manually targeting units. When mines automatically target units, they tend to target the nearest enemy unit, but those units are also automatically targeted and killed by marines, so then the mine has to re-acquire another enemy unit which makes it take longer for the mine to detonate. But when mines are manually targeted, they detonate quicker and tend to explode into clumps of zerg instead of on the outside units. Most importantly, when mines are manually targeted, it's hard for zerg to predict what the mine would do. So if zerg sends one zergling into the mine followed by the main clump of zerglings, the mine would normally detonate on the first zergling, but with manual attack, the mine hits the clump of zerglings. You can see maru manually targeting his mine by watching the mine's little gray line that shows which unit it's targeting. When maru manually targets, the gray line changes.

there is a build in direct strike where you get combat shields after your marines stim, which gains you hp because the stim is cheaper when you don't have combat shields and as the upgrade finishes it gives max hp and current hp. I don't know if the 3 medivac 2-1-1 utilizes this as the upgrade might not work the same way in melee, but it has an opportunity to.

Marines start with 45 health and stim costs 10. Banes deal 35 damage, which is just enough to kill a stimmed marine. Combat shields gives +10hp, which means that a marine can stim once without being 1-shot by a baneling.

he played far better then clem... The problem is he is not stable. The top 3 europeans serral, reynor, clem are relatively stable. Maru sometimes is absurdly insane and sometimes you are asking yourself what the hell is he actually doing.

@@Smiles216 Actually Maru has been the most stable Terran player in KR, only behind Trap and Rogue. He reached top 4 in 4-5 events this year including the IEM, Code S and DH Global. Other than the losses to other top players, Maru only bombed at Code S season 2 Ro16, where he had to play the group the day after the DH Global Final. It was a shitty schedule conflict and even shittier that GSL and ESL didnt figure out anything to give Maru enough rest or preparation.

Ravens are probably one of the most important units in TvT. They can disable tanks which can otherwise feel impossible to break and you can only interference matrix mechanical units which Terran has a lot of and zerg has none of. The only reason ravens would be built against zers is for hellion pushes that clear creep without having to use scans. Starports with tech labs are also way worse if you aren't building ravens or battlecruisers regularly, so building ravens against zerg players commit you to a tech lab which will mean less healing and drops with medivacs.

Game 3 was the only time Serral got caught because he was expecting Tanks but instead its invisible mines.

serral had a huge gaz bank and nowhere to spend it. toss in this case can instabuild bigillion archons and they are incredibly good. i believe in previous patches zerg could build 40 winfestors ) but nowdays infestors lost a lot of versatility, without infested terrans.

What the fuck was that low tier units only play by serral, against the best Terran in Korea? Either serral lost his mojo and only able to climb the ladder using low tier builds or Maru is a league above him in skill. No real aggression from serral, almost always on defense, taking bad engagements, never putting his opponent on the backfoot and no clutch plays in a match where you need all of those things just to be on par. Ling bane is great, for a time and against ladder, but c'mon we've seen much better from him in the past this was very mediocre Zerg play by every standard

Maru forced Serral hand with the early 2-1-1 build and pressure in every games. Serral natural reaction was to build up lingbane to defend, he couldnt tech up to anything else because he had to survive. Had Serral secure his 4 base and suffered no major losses, he could have transitioned into either Muta or Hydra-Lurker, Maru just didnt let him the time or resource to do it.

@@sage4670 Micro from both sides wasnt the cleanest but that can be put down to ping. Serral running on bare minimum and not having front line spores versus so many widow mines. He kept taking bad fights into widow mines, just slamming his head against a wall, didnt even send lings first to draw fire ( well I mean he did, he just kinda sent them all at once haha). not switching tech fast enough or using resuorces efficiently. Not breking rocks that were a disadvantage to him while he had time too. I mean I could go on but id sound like i was nit picking using hindsight. The main takeaway is that Serral plays alot cleaner usually but you could tell he was flustered and panicing at times. Also not switching up his build orders enough. He was just rinse and repeating. Made it easy for Maru. Maru was mostly micro mistakes but thats because I expect alot from him but as I said earlier we could put that down to ping.

I can understand how Serral wasnt ready for those mines shot, because against Mines, you want to send army little by little to limit the splash, against Tanks you want to send EVERYTHING to close the distance as quickly as possible. And in game 3, Maru switched to mines (with Armory and Drilling Claw) really caught Serral off-guard, he wasnt expecting invisible mines that early in the game, and he wasnt scouting at all, expecting the same push from Maru with tanks.
