you do a great job of explaining Serum sound design. I know after I've watched a tut, I have new techniques in mind for how to make the sounds I want, but with an understanding of WHY I'm doing these things. Lots of tutorials go over how to make a sound very quickly without ever explaining the WHY part of it. So there's no learning the synth there, which is what I want.

Hi, kind of an unusual question, but for someone who's not super music theory savvy, how do you come up with these chord progressions? They really manage to serve the sounds you make SUPER well. Do you have any pointers or resources I could look at? If so I'd super appreciate it.

Sure thing it’s been a slow process for me but one site id recommend is HookTheory. They have the chords to thousands of songs on there in different genres which can be super helpful to see what different types of artists gravitate to. I’d also recommend trying to recreate chord progressions from songs you like, this is something I’ve had to do a lot over the years for videos. I’d also recommend Scaler 2, it’s been super helpful to get instant feedback to see what chords I naturally write. Also learning about chord voicing was a game changer for me, how you can rearrange and duplicate notes to make chords in a progression more cohesive. Bit of a ramble but definitely check out HookTheory!

sort of a random question but did you generate those chords through scaler or play them separately and detect through scaler? struggling to get similar voicing through the chords already in scaler.

I wrote them in Scaler but by manually entering each note to build each chord from scratch using the 'edit chord' option and wrote them by ear. I'm not sure how scaler would voice the chords by default.
