Then same thing happened with computers, few sequences next to eachother to appear as illusion of movement. Later there was 2D, 3D, CGI. This is based on a game, and in-game characters with backstory, which are shown in perspective of how entire fanbase created their characters. It is funny, because you can relate to those situations as a player of those heroes. So in fact, they have characters. Simple situation is shown, and people like it, and consider it funny. They can relate to those situations in game, because of stereotypical behavior of people who play those heroes. So it is enjoyable for the game's community, not necessarily for an "outsider". Now, not everything have to be created to be a "masterpiece", some creations are just meant to be enjoyable (like it is in this case). Still, animation doesn't have to be meaningful, contain interesting characters or anything. I could animate you a falling rock, and it'd be an animation. Your opinions are subjective, so are rest of the people. You don't have to consider something as "good", for people to like it. Just let people enjoy things. So it is an animation, If you want it, or not.
