I've seen JB several times, he came to Wilmington De and while he was on stage doing his famous gallop a big thunder came out of nowhere, it started raining buckets of rain, we stood their soaked until JB stopped singing.

this concert was filmed at the Doubletree Hotel in Monterey Ca, in one of the conference rooms... I was standing near the stage just to the right... after the show as James was heading to the car that was taking him to the airport, he walked up to me and my friends and smiled, shook our hands and told us to stay in school and don't do drugs... I know things changed later in his life as far as drug use... but he was one of the reasons I didn't use or ever try drugs.. he was very anti-drugs when I was a child... James was a huge influence on many people back in the day... Now people make fun of him and focus on the negative aspects of his later life.... but there was a time when there was NO ONE bigger in black entertainment... He was Michael Jackson before Michael Jackson , he was Prince before Prince, or Kanye, or Drake , or Biggie or Tupac etc.. he was all those rolled into one... believe it...

James is 46 years old here! --- and at the peak of his powers. I had the great fortune to see him perform live four times in my life, twice in enormous venues, once in a tiny intimate club near Detroit, and once only a month before he passed, as it turned out. Each and every time, no matter the outward circumstances, he gave us in the audience every ounce of energy and inspiration he had. Pure spirit and soul like his the world has rarely seen in any field of endeavor. Besides his status as a musical Godfather, a real leader and real man. Respect forever.

I bought this VHS back in the late ‘90s from Amoeba Records on Telegraph in Berkeley. Sure enough, it quickly became one of my Dad’s tapes lol. But my best memory of it is around 2002 me and my friend took it across the street to the neighbors house where he was having a party, Mom and Dad were there, a lot of other couples, along with young people our age, and we were all in there partying off “Bodyheat”, “Eyesight”, “Sex Machine” and everything off this tape. That was a truly good night, and a lot of those people there are no longer here or in Ill health, but it was good to be there with them and JB on that night.

I was right behind you. Caught his act at the Apollo Theatre in late 1960's. One of a few blue eyed soul brothers in attendance. Peace, out!

💗💗🤟🏽🤟🏽😍😍You did it! try the one when he goes to the homeland, Zaire. That one is extra special...I doubt there will ever be in our lifetimes that we will see this much soul, talent, and timing in another performer.
