Fluidity of the service motion is much talked about, but little is actually given to help people DEVELOP this quality. This lesson does. Ergo, GREAT JOB - Thanks Big N!!! 👍👍👍 P.S.- Really liked the tip about rounding, i.e. flexing, the wrist at the half position. I actually experimented with this after watching Raonic serve, but wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong; if I was copying a pro's STYLE versus a FUNDAMENTAL. Now I know better and will try it again to see if that will help me get a more fluid service motion. Thx again - JD

I am amazed! at this point you have p43 likes and14 thumb down. You kinda wonder where the thumbs down came from! This is a routine that if practiced will substantially upgrade your serve. I've been playing 69 years, am a teaching pro and find this is working for me and the people I still coach- Great work

Hi Nadim! I appreciate all of your serve tips & other guys too! I definitely like the push up from back foot & hold the finish up & & out. (I've recently had my front knee collapse on the serve & should benefit from this movement). Do you have any tips on tossing from the shoulder & getting arm & ball to full extension? Creating rhythm on the toss & eliminating spin on the toss? I have a hard time doing the half serve because of the toss. I try to lock my wrist & elbow on the toss, but it doesn't always work. Thanks so much!!!

It allows the server to stay in the correct swing path , prevents the jerky motion that most players have on the serve ( dropping the head too soon), stops the server from arming the hit by allowing the extended position at contact to still be connected to the body and allows for the slow then fast acceleration required for the proper serve mechanics ( as opposed to that rushed feeling to hit the ball which leads to the exact opposite fast then deceleration at contact) Thanks Nadim. Very clear and precise instructional tips as always! These guys have really good people on their team!
@nadimnaser97864 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, Mark. The main reason it adds to consistency is that it allows for less net mistakes. Sz Ki does explain it nicely...thanks for that - I, personally, find it easier to fix someone's "long" mistake than the one that goes in the net. If you work on keeping your swing-path and have less "purposeful" speed downward and forward, I believe your serve will surely become more consistent and go over the net more often. Hope this helps.

Very informative instruction on this channel, I’ve been trying the up and out method and can feel It’s right although strenuous on the elbow joint for a wanna be tennis player in their mid 40’s! Carrying out the salute motion hinging from the elbow only then bringing the elbow forward once the racket is above head is also key which I haven’t been doing. Thanks for the tips.

Great video on beginner serve. I have a question that what's the advantage of "hip out" before swinging racquet up & out. Will it add value to serve power or consistency, etc? Thank you
@redatopolowa1563 жыл бұрын
Hi Nadim, when you are talking 'up and out' you mean the movement of the arm up and to the right? Do I understand this concept properly?
@markadmiraal61694 жыл бұрын
I heard my technique on the serve is OK but in matches I do not get my 1st serve in consistently. It goes long very often, somehow because of the tension my arm and body not work as they do in practice. My body is just too tense to hit it with the appropriate speed. I have it only outside. Inside my serve is a weapon, because there is no wind and I am confident. People say you should hit more spin, but if you are nervous your toss and motion will slightly deviate causing a wrong serve directly. Anyone any tips on this?

Thanks but none of your final tries were anywhere close to a proper serve. If you try serving like this to a proper player you would not know what hit you... Anyway, thanks. I guess it probably can be useful for complete beginners
@the1tfactor4 жыл бұрын
Art Kharlamov He was confusing the drill with a full service motion, as opposed to the half motion, but it was still the drill. Not his actual serve. Anyone who has seen Nadim's serve would know this. I am not an absolute beginner, and I will still be trying this drill to see what I can gain.
@nadimnaser97864 жыл бұрын
Hi Art, this exercise is designed to help players who have trouble with hitting inconsistent serves make use of a technique that allows for more consistency and less mistakes (especially in the net). Once we know where the fastest speed of the swing is supposed to go to (up and out) we can then let the service motion come to a natural finish, as opposed to come to swinging in the wrong direction (most often down and forward). We use this technique on all levels of play, including professional-level players, and it works quite well.
