Check out the Viper V765 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard here, and thanks to Viper Gaming for sponsoring today's video! amzn.to/3mH1CAc
What is all the equipment in my server rack, and what do I use it all for? It's time for 'What's in my Server Rack - 2021 Edition'!
But first... What am I drinking???
A seasonal favorite from Rogue Ales and Spirits (Newport, OR), it's the Dead & Dead. Rogue takes their classic Dead Guy Ale, and ages it with Dead Guy Whiskey Barrel Chips. A delicious way to celebrate Halloween.

I also use Home Assistant with ZWave, Ubiquiti, etc. I have redundant Raspberry Pi 4Bs plus I run it in ProxMox so that I have a local copy on each floor of the house (I have a rack on each floor that has local control and communicates with the others). Home Assistant also automatically controls all of my air cleaners, dehumidifiers, HVAC, exhaust fans, etc. based on environmental measurements all over the house and outside temps/air quality.

you might still want to consider going with two UPS units when you do decide to upgrade; having A/B redundancy and splitting the load between the two is a great way to not only bring the individual unit load down, but in the event of a failure, PM, battery swap, etc., you have one unit that can remain up and handle the full rack on its own. Plus, if you already have to run a 240 circuit, running a second at the same time is better than having to run it after you get everything buttoned up. that tripplite unit is frickin sick though! i didnt realize they had rack mountable AC units like that. will definitely be looking into one of those.

I can vouch for the Mikrotik equipment. Last company I worked they had a router board and a switch from them and at the first glance I, who always had used Cisco/Netgear/other enterprise brands dismissed as bad. Yes their management software on the PC is archaic and somewhat confusing, with a somewhat step learning curve. But in terms of hardware for the price/performance bracket, heck they are some powerful little machines. Yes has you said, if you start messing with L3 the cracks start to appear, but again as you said, for L2 that is most of the normal needs of a small to medium business, they just rip and tear.

@mapesdhs597
@mapesdhs597 2 жыл бұрын
I see a fair few comments about using the vented air to heat the house during winter, but that's the time of year when less such air would be created anyway. Also, as it is, the air would be rather dry, laced with heaven knows what vapours from all the machinery and probably static prone, not something one would want to blow straight into a home. Perhaps a heat exchanger could do something useful, I don't know.

One question - what's your kWh pricing where you're at (electricity)? Have you done any research on potentially getting solar installed to offset the power draw by chance? We just bought a new house, which gives me the opportunity to fully re-think how I have my setup deployed, and power usage is one of those things that I've been considering doing something differently with. There's already 240v wired in as the previous owner had a home welding setup going... but I think maybe some solar panels might be in order here.

Also the fact that the govt there unnecessarily closed all the nuclear stations due to the moral panic that followed from the Fukishima incident (changes pushed due to technical ignorance, ideological bias and corporate/political corruption), which ironically shoved carbon output through the roof as power feeds had to switch to coal very quickly to make up the shortfall. Now, from what I've been told, the legacy is a new and growing dependency on gas from Russia. Much the same sort of mess is happening in many parts of Europe, including where I am in the UK.

Looking forward to the Supermicro review! The only thing missing is a PDU. With the right PDU you can measure/log input Voltage/Amps, per outlet output V/A, temperature/humidity sensors and the ability to remotely turn off/on outlets of anything in your rack. I have Zabbix monitoring and remotely rebooting a power meter monitoring box via a PDU when it stops responding to API calls (it's old, no longer supported and no direct access). Cheers!

BTW, you should think about a better HVAC solution... I use a stand alone VHAC to better control the temp in my lab year round, winter to summer and so on. Recycling the (cooling the air in a close loop format) is better, cost wise then blowing out house AC/heated air but you need the right kind of AC / Heater heat pump unit to do this with exhuast and return piping install to the outside air exchange. Check out my HVAC for my home lab to get some ideas. BTW it only ran me a cost of $450 to do it. .002 cent per hour on running it. I don't run it during Fall and spring for I only run about 1/3 of my gear at any giving time. I use four block 20 amp circuits for my one part of my lab and for my burner rack in my basement I have two block 20 amp circuits. As for UPS, I use PDU instead for I only do testing so I don't need the UPS function for my needs unless I have to run a server for 24/7. That is my day job so I don't do it at home...

@@steveheist6426 Ok, that's pretty HC setup for such small usage. I was thinking that something like that could do something else, like whatever website hosting or something for some fee, but I did heard that there's not good up bandwidth, which obviously makes things harder. That's why I began to wonder that is it completely personal hobby server. Simply curious as I run proxmox currently on old Surface Pro 2 and one Celeron NUC. Just slight difference on hardware 😂

I have Century link Fiber... I know... Century Link. Pay LESS than I did for comcast, with HIGHER uptime, with 948 up and 984ish down, and a residential Static Public IP. If available in your neck of the woods, I would say give it a shot. Its been way better for me than Comcast has EVER been. With... betterish customer service when I do have issues (usually self inflicted because I'm a tinkerer)

Hello, I found your channel by accident 😅 I'm here to comment and wonder what a huge electricity bill you must have! Still it's very interesting some comments like not leaving your home data center for home automation items. I also love the products from Ubiquity which come very handy to specific scenarios. Anyway cheers, take care!

@@CraftComputing it is indeed! Here where I live there is hydroelectric power generation and it is supposed to be cheap. I was curious and did some calculus and the actual cost is double that, at least! Thanks for answering the comment! 👍🏻

I'm not getting why the ACU is at the bottom of the rack. Cold air sinks. Warm air rises. Ok, you have a fan and I'm guessing it is sucking the air out of the top of the rack, and that will cause the cold air to be sucked up. That's not good practice for air flow though - is it? Shouldn't you be blowing COLD air rather than HOT air? Cold air is more dense and so the fan works better. But I'm not an expert on the bigger picture.

Trying to understand whether this is proxmox based, with passthrough for the GTX, or you use the latest beta drivers for the GTX from nvidia ? can you please elaborate a bit on this ? That would be fantastic :D

Jeff just curious was there a typical load on your rack when you were filming? I was just curious not a huge amount of head room left on a typical outlet there let alone your ups. So can your cloud gaming setup up run in that rack or do you have to run it somewhere else?

Hey Jeff. My name is Archie. I’m in the process of building a home server rack (a welder is building it because I can’t afford to pay for one). I’m really and truly new to this whole process. My reason for building it nevertheless is to be able to have some place to hold the Unifi switch and the UDM pro controller that I intend to purchase. I truly like your KZbin shows so if it is possible, can you help me? I also intend to purchase and build two 2U chassis servers (one for plex and one for Unifi protect). With all of this then, please let me know if to get assistance from you, I must start with your patreon account. Thank you for your consideration.

If you find a good home automation solution, please share. It's a nightmare trying to find products that easily integrated w/o being locked in a proprietary mode. Best I have come up w/ so far is to get devices that all use the same Zwave or Zigbee protocol

Your original video detailed that it was all supported but no bios settings to enable it or SR-IOV. Those issues prevent me from purchasing these servers and hope you can provide an update.
