You don't have to bend the heat pipes if you have clearance issues you just gotta drill several small holes on the top of the case in the exact layout of the heat pipes at the exact size of the heat pipes where they make contact with the case and they will just pop out neatly (provided you do the measurements correctly). Each hole should only be a few millimeters larger than the actual pipe and this is plenty of clearance. Saw this once a few years ago the only downside is that it may have clearance issues on a rack. Looks pretty neat otherwise.

I had the the same issue with cooler when I moved my 1950x server from a tower to a 4U, ended up going the nh-U9 as it was the only thing that fit properly. While capable, its louder and runs about 10C hotter than the nh-u14 did. Apparently on intel the u12s will just fit, but on AMD the extra socket height rules it out. I may just end up watercooling the server case like I've already done with my new 5950x workstation

I have the same motherboard and almost the same CPU (it's 7742 QS on my side). Firstly - motherboard allows memory overclock and i am running my 2400 memory at 3200 no problem. Secondly its Mini-SAS HD headers are not U.2 - they are SATA headers, you will have to get OCuLink to U.2 cable to connect U.2 drives to it. And finally - while there was an OcULink to 4xSAS/Sata split cable in the box i was not able to make it work no matter what. Otherwise - this system is very cool!
@blaringice3 жыл бұрын
Jeff, I'm not saying anything here, but I just upgraded to that motherboard a few weeks ago - coming from a platform that was pretty much the same as your old one which I had put together only a few weeks before you did your video with the S7150x2's. Back then, I was trying a single S7150x2 but I never got it to work - pretty sure it was dead. Used single card's passed through for quite a while until I saw your vGPU video. Been trying a couple different cards out with that with mixed results. 1060 did well. Got a Tesla M40 24GB that's been having some issues - have a github issue in with DualCoder on that now, but I think I'm just going to return the card and get an M60 instead unless I can get a major breakthrough before I have to send it back for the return. I with I could afford the amount of RAM and that CPU that you have - I've just got a 1st gen 16 core and 64 GB. Very cool project though! Keep up the progression on this, it's been very cool to watch and compare!

Interesting, my 3970x does the R15 in 7039. I was expecting the 64 core part to do over 10k, but maybe the clocks and slow ram are the issue? For gaming, that may be a problem over something like the 3990X which could run 256GB RAM at a higher clock speed. Not sure ECC for gaming matters. I have mine mounted in a 4U rack, but with a water block and 360 RAD and it stays much cooler. If you had a little more depth to the server case, it would be worth looking at.
