He did really good coming back to public access after having some time away from it. Good job in the timing of your corrections too. Haven't had too much summer activities this year due to health reasons. You and Astro are doing really well even after two months away from public access work. Yes Astro was vocalizing his frustration but he didn't bark as most Aussie's would so that is a GREAT thing. Aussie's are a very vocal breed. He's doing amazing and you are doing an amazing job with his training too. Much love to your entire family

I love your videos and I think you do awesome trying Astro so I hope my advice is received kindly as I only want to help. My SD use to get frustrated and vocalize when trying his tasks commands as well, I realized it came to his lack of understanding why I wasn’t giving him the treat when we were building up duration and the treat being to high value to the point he wasn’t thinking about what he was doing. So maybe go back to the basics of the task with less valued treats and then when he continues tasking after a while give him the higher value treats for consistency of tasking without an instant reward.
@user-fg2vf3tz3l
@user-fg2vf3tz3l Жыл бұрын
I know how. First, you get a treat that Astro likes, and then bring the treat on the other side of the leash and repeat it over, and over again. Vest/harness you do the same thing but with the vest/harness you don't bend down Astro should come to you during a command call and repeat it over and over again.

My dog hates loose leashes so I try to alternate between retractable leashes and loose leashes. Make sure to give him plenty of rewards while you have a leash on, have a great day!

I for one very much enjoy a Videos like we’ve sharing each other‘s experiences is how we learn and also feel less alone so thanks for having us on your training journey. I also realized recently that I was doing something similar with the word free using it to mean release and also break from whatever particular command she was performing so I have switched it out for OK as well which is working well for us. Since it is not a legal requirement for service dogs to wear a gear in public, maybe you don’t have to have him use a vest or harness if that’s just something he really doesn’t enjoy, you could keep using the leash wraps as you’re doing and also maybe do a service dog collar I have one for my SD. That way he would still be labeled and people would know he was working but it wouldn’t be as much as gear.

hi hi! Noted!! I'd love to share more about my experiences in general! We have leash wraps but they don't work as well. People seem to ignore astro better with his vest on. Without his vest, lots of people approach us causing more anxiety lols. ☺️

@@AstroFromTheBlue I look forward to the future experiences you choose to share. And that does make sense, that people wouldn’t pay much attention to leash wraps, they should of course but I guess just it’s just more eye-catching plus it’s what people would expect to see that probably makes in mind it more. Not that it should be that way of course.

Favorite Summer Activity: 😴

Great video. Astro did so good. Fav summer activity might be travel. We moved this summer but travel is always a big part of our summers. Btw moved across the country and had a fun road trip with it. Also my dog is skittish of her vest as well. But I have to put it on her during outings cause it has patches on both sides that say “in training, do not pet”. One way I found that she is more comfortable with me putting on her vest is not moving it over her head. Her vest is a tactical vest that has four buckles, two that are positioned on her chest/shoulders, and two that are positioned at her sides/rib cage. I used to have the two at her chest always buckled and the two behind her arms never buckled when I was placing it on her. This meant I was shoving her head through a hole and she got very skittish of that. I then switched to where I have two buckles buckled and those two are on the same side. For example the left chest buckle and the left rib buckle are both buckled. It means I can have her offer her paw to me, place the paw into the hole created by the two buckles on the same side being buckled, and then slowly move the harness over her back and under her belly and fasten the other two buckles. This has helped so much with her fear of the vest. I wonder if your current vest can go on that way or if you would purchase a new one that can go on that way to help Astro get less gear shy. Just an idea. Hope this helps.

Hi hi! I'm so sorry it took me so long to respond!! I hope you are doing well!! Ouuu that's amazing how you moved across the country! That's such an accomplishment! HEheh thanks for sharing, but the interesting this is that his normal everyday harness buckles around his body *just like you said*. He still isnt the biggest fan so I guess we'll always be working on that! Thinking of getting a different vest too!

As always, love your videos ♥I don't know why he wouldn't want a leash. Personally, all three of my dogs hate things pushed over their heads and even more taken off. So, I switched to buckles that can be clipped to their necks instead of pulled over. Hope it helps!

I recommend teaching a switch heel if you haven’t already it comes in handy if ever passing a iffy dog you are unsure about for example: my sdit heels on the left if the dog is on his side I’ll say switch and he goes to my right and my body becomes that block in case of anything in case I need to have the split second to act

Favorite summer activity is staying home, lol. I hate the heat, so much. Cant wait for winter! Astro did so good for 2 months off! My own girl is gear shy, has been since she was a pup. Tried a lot of desensitization, but still not 100%, but she isn't as shy as she once was. We recently got a bridgeport harness and she's been getting used to it. She hasnt been wanting to trot with it on, but we've been working on it. Maybe he'd do better with a light weight yfront harness? Like fleece or even the guardian set from one tigris.

Haha we love staying home too! It’s comforting to hear that astro isn’t the only one with this problem! His harness clips around him rather than going through his head, so I’m not sure why he’s so afraid of it !! Good luck with your training and desensitizing your gear :)

Great video! Astro did really good for not doing PA training for a while. You are doing really great! Astro my not like is service dog vest because it does look kinda up in his armpit and it may be irritating the area. for him being gear shy, i would lay the harness on the floor at home and just get him use to seeing it and then just have him start to just put his head in and not snap it. after that eventually work up to the point of snapping it and leaving it on for about 10 minutes a day and then hopefully that might fix it.

During my summer i have a red nose Pitbull, he's a male so I'm training him. To be my Service Dog. He does follow me everywhere i go in the house. Also, during my "WALKS" with him he is always on my right side then when i tell him to switch he comes on my left, and then back to my right side then back into a hell.

And in the other video with John be careful with having him sit at every crosswalk/stop light, some dogs in the long run might get strange hips as in maybe not aligned right. Especially if a vet says their hips aren’t already in the best condition, so I’ve heard. Some dogs just aren’t comfortable sitting, so as long as your dog waits while at a crosswalk or light one is safest.

I think his vest is uncomfortable for him. Not sure if there’s a reason for you but maybe try adjusting the length straps so it sits on him differently. Personally for me and my service dog his vest needs to sit further back on his back so he’s comfortable. Also he might’ve wanted you to hold his treat after having the vest on because the strap cuts into his neck when he puts his head down. Just food for thought.
@AstroFromTheBlue
@AstroFromTheBlue Жыл бұрын
Hmmm that’s a great point! I’ll make adjustments, but he’s like that with all of his gear (collar, harness, and vest)! There’s enough space in between the straps and his body too, so I don’t think anything is being cut off! ☺️☺️
