Before 2 Lockdown 2 Furious and all that was annonced, Antony Ingram (automotive journalist of Evo magazine fame) asked me if I could service his newly acquired 1996 Toyota Paseo. Having never heard of one before, I obviously agreed. A few days before he was due at my unit, I suddenly decided I'd try and film it, since I've been threatening to make videos for a while now (I created this channel 3 years ago without posting anything!), and this seemed like a good opportunity. As a result of this, production values are low, we didn't have much gear, my voice is quiet and I talk fast, but hey, we all start somewhere, right? I promise to invest in better audio equipment at least before my next video. Oh, and I'll try and talk more, since as I'm a mechanic by trade, I'm not exactly used to doing a running commentary while I work.

tip to hand unscrew oil filter is to use this kitchen tool. Tool was to set onto jars that won't open. It looks like a rubber coaster but works.

Great sound and good job editing for your first video. Well done. Being honest, the duration is a bit on the long side for my preference (only my opinion). I enjoyed the little knowledge bits like where you said the rubber grip for the plugs sometimes gets left down in the hole. I think most watchers stay engaged when we are learning. Explaining things as you go or sharing wisdom as your wrench might be something to consider. Cheers.

Really enjoyed the simplicity of service. No b/s, made it look easy. Just brought myself a Paseo for a birthday present as I couldn't do anything else with the Covid restrictions. Only 201 registered with the DVLA in January 2021. Great video, looking for to some more classics.

Congratulations! I'm in the USA. I've had a '97 Paseo for the past three and a half years. I so hope that you'll love yours as much as I've loved mine. I bought it to use as a crasher but after the first week I realized that it was a good car. I had some body work done and new paint, and I take perfect mechanical care of it. Being a Toyota I wasn't afraid of it having 112,000 miles on it, and since buying it I've driven an additional 10,000 miles. I've never been stranded with it and I'm not afraid to take it anywhere. I use synthetic oil and only the highest octane Shell gasoline.

I have a '97 Paseo. It might be helpful to know that I've found I can remove the engine oil filter from the top side. Wait for things to cool down a little beforehand as it's close to the exhaust manifold, and as you know oil filters get hot. Once unscrewed you'll find there's just enough room to get it out. I wear rubber gloves for a good grip and some insulating protection.

Great vid. Knew someone who had new Paseo SI in '97. Had ride in it at 2 months old. By then already done over 5k miles. Had 9k servicing which back then unheard of. Quite fine tolerances suspect as had first service at 11.5k and was making horrible noise. Saw it about 3 years later and had done 44k. Over engineered back then. My Yaris has more power now.

Lovely video Katie! See! Nothing to worry about, you did great! 😁 Nice Toyota Paseo, haven't seen many of them about though I do know someone who has one. Really not a lot of headroom in the back 😂 What was the tool you used to remove the oil filter? Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the future 😀👍 Hopefully some Scirocco and Abarth action 🤞

Thank you! I’m not sure what the technical term for the tool is other than ‘oil filter wrench’ but it’s from Halfords. Really good for getting canister filters off, just adjust it to whatever size you need!

Good first video. How on earth did it pass the MOT with those headlight lenses ?. Generally that would be a fail.

Yeah defo did over tighten, spotted this on Twitter so came for a look to see if the point was valid. Get a torque wrench on it and see how little tightening they need instead of using torque elbow……..same with sump plugs people always swing on them and it’s the next person who has to undo them that gets fooked when the thread pulls out.

Your ignorance is clearly displayed by your lack of ability to create a video of your own. Post a link to your own spark plug tightening video before criticising someone else's hard work. It's not hard unless you don't own a spanner.
