when I was a young teen, my aunts boyfriend at the time "Damon" had a paseo. The front fender paint was peeling, the car was silver but the passenger door was black, and the rear wheel wells had rust holes big enough to put a finger through. He had it straight piped, and put a hilariously massive spoiler on it, the kind of spoiler that has cables criss-crossed to keep it stable. Damon himself was exactly the man you would expect to be driving such a car. Pushing 40 but still had the attitude of a 16 year old. His receding hairline pulled back into a pony tail, an attempt at a goatee, and an oversized black t-shirt that he thought made him look like Steven Seagal, who he worshipped as the peak of manliness. Damon drove that car a little too fast everywhere, had about three different radar detectors, and never wore his seatbelt 'in case he had to bail'. As you can tell, my aunt had fantastic taste in men.

When I saw that the subject was the Toyota Paseo, I unintentionally let out an orgasmic "ugh!" I love this little car, and the "economy coupe" segment as a whole. I firmly believe, if we think about it with total honesty, it's the best type of vehicle for most peoples' daily driving habits. And I will argue that point to anyone anywhere. A couple years ago, I had a neighbor with a teal 2nd gen Paseo with light grey cloth interior, and I couldn't stop looking at it, because I realized that, even though I drive a much nicer car today, I could be perfectly content if that was my daily driver. You must be in your 20's or at least very early thirties. I saw a lot of them when I was 17-25 years old. (I am now 38) The issue is that they were heavily abused by teenagers and didn't get much maintenance or care. Also being from Montreal Quebec with heavy snow and heavily salted roads, the body of those cars would rust to hell... and given the lack of care, they were all scrapped. Not many survivors.

Man thank you for this vid. I had a 92 Paseo as my first car back in the day. Bought it with 186k miles, drove the everliving piss out of it, and not once did she skip a beat. I loved that car. (I learned to drive stick on her too) 4 years later and about 120k miles added, I sold her for the same $1000 dollars that I bought her for. Same oil leak, stock everything. I did do my routine maintenance, breaks and alternator, but that's all she needed. Again, thank you for this awesome vid!

My Dad had a 95 Paseo Convertible. He found it at a local used car place, and it had been very well loved to that point, other than the ragtop. Dad found a shop that he had the top redone in a camel cover, and the body was black. He had the seats recovered in the camel color as well. It was a very sharp little car, and Dad definitely called it his mid-life crisis. Pros, it was sharp. It was fun to drive. Cons, it desperately needed a sixth gear. You'd get into 5th, and just needed something else to get it over the top, especially in the mountains where we live.

But it would chirp second gear, got like 40+ mpg hwy, and the entire car felt like one solid piece, which is amazing for such a light car.
