Maintenance of equipment is vital. Regular general maintenance and care will help keep your equipment running smoothly and in great shape. My grandfather had a lawnmower that was nearly 30 years old that looked nearly brand new. He all ways would wash and dry it after each use and coated it with a light coat of WD-40. Changed the oil regularly as well as the air filter. He believed in preventative maintenance on both equipment and automobiles.

That's the way it should be. I can't complain about something always breaking down or not working if I don't put my effort in as well. Many think because they buy something expensive it should just "work". Not the case! I'm very thankful I was raised to work hard for things and appreciate them. Gald you feel the same way.

i think this is something that almost always gets over looked But is really important to do ! I was taught as a child/very young 6-8yo about taking care of your equipment ! as a mater of fact we square baled about 400-450 bales of hay today and we used a baler that was 70-75 years old ..but it has ben taken care of .we went over it before we start ever time ..take care of ya stuff & it will last a lifetime or more !

If you fill up the diesel bowl and filters prior to installation, start up will be so much easier and quicker. It also reduces the chances of getting air in the fuel system

I heard that when you are changing the oil filter if you make like a little pan with a piece of cardboard and funnel it out past the houses into the bucket, it makes much less of a mess...

Andrew keep an eye out up in behind your large hydraulic filter there is a seal in there where the linkage that runs your 4 wheel drive mine was leaking and it was tough to find but after a few days of removing stuff I found it. Wish I could send you a pic then it may save a few steps….

Also, beware of cheaper aftermarket air filters, especially the flat panel filters. Lots of the aftermarket ones are really bad & dont seal well. That might be "acceptable" for a cabin filter, but is not acceptable for engine air filters.
@TKCL
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
I try to order everything from the official John Deere website on Amazon. The only filter that's never available from them is the fuel water separator.

You would think they would have designed a better filter/location for the cab air intake than behind the tractor where it gets filthy so quick. A lot of folks use a battery powered leaf blower for keeping radiators cleared out similar to what you did. What are your thoughts about using low pressure water from the hose when around the house to also wash off the radiators assuming you let it dry before getting in the dust?
@TKCL
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
That's always been my concern about water, not being completely dry and it clogging up more. Plus water around electric connections and sensors does not sit well with me. I personally prefer the air wand.
@gcampbell83

I am curious as to why you did not blow out and clean the engine compartment before you started to change out your air filters in the engine compartment. That is the first thing I do when I service an engine. Everything else looks great.
@TKCL
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
I did and even recorded it. That was edited out to shorten the video and I didn't feel people would want to watch it. I'm not working on dirt and dust if I don't have to. The dust you seen wouldn't blow out with 100 psi.

Speaking of the radiators and condensers. A part of our maintenance program in servicing motorcoaches, every spring season all the condensers, evaporators, and radiators we will use bug sprayers and evaporate/condensers cleaners which is essentially aluminum acid cleaner and flush out in between the fins. Pressurized air doesn't always clean everything.... the acid will.

Did you service your own hydraulics or have them serviced? I’m wondering if a service tech left that sensor wire off by accident. Always check after mechanics now because one day I drove home to find out they left my oil cap off after an oil change and my engine compartment was covered. Lol

It was at the shop for an emissions sensor repair and I let them service the hydraulics because the price was actually reasonable.

@@TKCL it just seemed unlikely for you, you’re kind of like me, extremely anal and overly careful about these things and those plugs are made not to really just come unlocked and accidentally pop out so I figured it was something more along those lines. That’s where I’d put my money anyway. 😂😂
