Servicing My Bachmann 0-6-0 (Read Description)

Time to service a loco that has never been serviced before apart from having its wheels cleaned sometime last year, and that probably didn’t do much, but what I did to this left very little dirt on the tracks. Least it did something. Lol.
Edit April 5th, 2021: I am one hundred percent aware that the 3 in 1 oil I used for this model was not ideal. I now use a much better Labelle light oil for my models. But thank you everyone for the heads up, anyway. I really do appreciate you all that. :)

I understand this issue well. Nowadays when i maintain my locos , i just use the barest minimal to lubricate the drive rods and other moving parts(exterior) with labelle light oil. And Bachmann E-Z gear grease for the gears only. Other than that i also remove the motor and polish the commutator, brushes and the various electrical contacts and the wheels treads/flanges too ,using a fiberglass polishing pencil. Works like was brand new after every servicing.

Nice. Yeah, I still need to dig into this 0-6-0. Back then, I barely knew what I was doing. Nowadays, I know what proper oil to use, the grease, I use labelle grease rather than Bachmann. I think they’re too thick-ish. But still need to take this 0-6-0 apart and lubricate it properly. Still haven’t done that yet, but yeah. The motors? I never took one fully apart before. Minus the ring field or pancake motors. Not the modern ones. How easy are they to take apart?

That sucks. It’s a pretty light weight model. So it could explain it. That thing can’t haul a lot of cars. Lol.

@@skylitejunction5589 I might have to service it the same way you did in this video. And some people purge from putting on traction tires on your locomotive(s) because it adds more realism and it wont burn the motor when it goes up hills or have too many cars.

Hi again. I'm trying to remove the body shell to work on it but the screw on the back of the under frame that holds the back on is stuck. Any suggestions?

I sure hope the 3 in 1 oil is plastic compatible. If not in time your gears will melt.

It is, but I don’t use it anymore. Lol. The thing still works to this day, I just haven’t ran it in ages. I regret using that type of oil for the model. I now use labelle light oil. It’s what I defiantly need to put in this model. Lol.

Try putting the middle screw back in. Look for where the body clips in and softly pop it off.

Everardo Hernandez I did try that, but the body still won’t come off. Another friend did tell me about something like that, except his 0-6-0 was a bit different, maybe? Even though that one is exactly the same tooling as this one, but without the smoke unit in the boiler. I will get the body off eventually, I just have to be very careful cause the body has never been off of this before, and I’m scared to break something, but I will get there eventually. :)

@@skylitejunction5589 Skylite Junction your right it's different, I'm just guessing at this point but it looks like yours has two little screws in the front attaching the front of the body and those oil tanks above the last two wheels look like clips in the back

Thomas The Tank Engine That’s really nice to hear. I have no clue what I did to my Santa Fe F7 units. I remember my last one I had was a train set that was double headed, and I remember taking one of them apart. Well, tried to, and I would try to fix it, turns out, it was an epic fail. XD

OMG, you need help badly lol. That main gear inside has plenty of grease that would last more than a year. The only thing needing oil would be the moving side rods. That oil you are using is a heavy oil and would damage the model over time. You only need two or three drops of smoke fluid as when the light bulb heats up the smoke unit, it turns the liquid to smoke. It takes a while for it to heat up. You would need to get LaBelle grease for the gears and light oil for the running side rods.

Yeah, I know, but I never really had this engine open before, and now I don’t really run it that often. Hopefully I’ll get it open and clean all that grease and oil out, and yeah, I no longer use that oil. I now use Labelle like you mentioned, and it works great.

I think I might do some of the things you did in this video on my 0 6 0 mine fell off the dresser and crash into the ground breaking off the front piece and the tender coupler it still runs but only has a certain speed as I take the controller all the way to Max and it barely goes any faster

I used to have the same exact train the Bachmann Chattanooga I missed when it was like that all good no parts broken I had it for 3 years.. the smoke unit wired snapped and the valve gear cylinders are snapped off, copper pickups almost always not touching, I know how to fully open it up, don’t got any lubricant, it runs bad I need to buy a new engine
