I have an electric winch but it seems loose, it “jumps” the gears and I can’t seem to find a solution, everything looks fine inside, no visual sign of wear. It feels like the disconnect rod is in the wrong position or something

A friend has bought a Boat with Harkin Winched - They all need serviced, there are two manual and two electric winches - The electric ones have a 'Block' in the centre where the winch handle would go in - to prevent you using a winch handle on the electric winches. How can this be removed to allow the winch to be dismantled for servicing?

On my 48.2 classic winches (considered an older model) grab the plastic tip of the disconnect rod in the winch handle socket with a vice grip (use a thin cloth to prevent scaring) and give it a good tug. This disconnect rod on the 48.2 is not mechanically attached and is held in place by two o-rings. Yours may be different so go easy.

You kind of glossed over greasing all the metal gear teeth . There is another Harken you tube video that shows this.
