Man these videos are great. I am just switching out a non-smart to smart amplifier. Read the documentation and watched this video. I am good to go but i will Call my local HFO to double check. Takes a minute. If i replace another amplifier i will have to order the auxiliary load PCB. Thanks guys

Seriously haas has to be one of the best CNC companies. other companies would be so locked down you wouldn't be able to even open door to the power control.

I've programmed and run more than a fair share of HAAS VHC,HMC, and Lathe products. I have always said they are not the best machine made, but they are the best value machine in the game. The service from our local HFO was always awesome and it seldom was needed; however I think anyone can guess that machinists and machine shops are full of capable people and armed with some information like this they can get back to making chips and money. Further expanding the value of the HAAS product.

I have a problem with a 2017 VF2SS where it (commonly) gets z axis servo error too large code. Its because the Z axis ballscrew brake stays on when the servo is trying to push the axis. Makes a nasty grinding sound and errors out. Can you make a video on how to fix that?

Colin - Have you had your local HFO out to take a look at this? This is a very unusual problem. The axis brake is part of the servo motor itself, so if the motor/brake is faulty that might be the cause, but normally an axis servo error too large is caused by something else.

Thanks for the reply Haas, I know you usually do not comment on these videos so I appreciate that. I did contact them about a few problems, still waiting for a reply. Its usually when jogging around the machine or just after running something in MDI, never during a full program. I figured that the brake was engaged during those times and not "servo'ing" in position. The z axis almost seizes, when you try to jog it makes a nasty grinding/crunching sound then gives servo error too large z axis error. Press reset a few times and its like nothing ever happened. I also have a problem (not sure if its connected to this) but once in a while the probing cycles do not execute. The cycle runs but the machine does not move, then it beeps and flashes green as if it just finished. During the same conditions it also sometimes throws up a corrupt file error. Reset, reset and its back to normal. Do you thing I have a bad motherboard or some electronic issue? Regardless I will contact my HFO again and try to get them out here. Your input is appreciated.

Colin - From what you've described, with the issue only occurring while in MDI, it sure sounds like something electrical/software might be going on. Let us know once you've heard from the HFO, we're interested to hear what the cause of this ended up being.

Colin Bastien holy crap. Your HFO should be all over this!! Call em every half hour until they get their assess out there. *_Especially_* if your warranty is "getting close." In that case I'd be calling every 5 minutes. I agree with Haas' reply, with issues only occurring in mdi, it sounds like a software issue that may be causing the noise you hear, but could easily include an electrical and/or parameter issue as well. Bad/corrupt servo loop can make some *_very_* odd noises. IIRC, the brake is engaged on power up and e-stop conditions, and should release upon the requisite # of reset button presses. Not sure about "idle" conditions, and can't recall how audible the brake actuation is, but if you loop a program that just feeds Z up and down ~½" @ an inch/min or some other obscenely slow federate & have someone e-stop the machine while you're near the Z axis motor, you should be able to hear it. Same for when it's reset out of e-stop. There's also definitely a bit in some parameter that shows the brake status, or at least what the control is commanding & "thinks" the status is anyway. Couldn't begin to tell you where to find it though. Next gen control is _long_ after my time. Which is why your HFO should have service guy checking out your machine _ASAP._

Colin Bastien oh, and the corrupt file error/probing points to software/something at the board level as well. Keep an eye on your axis loads as well. If you notice Z is abnormally high during normal operation that could be useful to the tech.

Hi Hass Team. Our company just ordered a Lathe machine from you. It ran just a month and it has a problem with alarm 177 - high voltage. The local team from HASS also came to check the problem but they could not fix. They updated the software, changed some connections, and it was still having that alarm. It is a brand new machine but we can not use any more. Why is that and which cases it happens? Thanks Peter

Eggsr2bcrushed No you have a setting that will cause this at any spindle load you might want. The settings are stop spindle and feed; slow down feed; or just alarm!
