There's something in the theme that sounds like jam jars or a child's toy piano being played that makes it so unique. I don't know if this was in the percussion - like a cowbell, or it was a keyboard instrument or xylophone.

(2:35) It's the part that's used when the closing theme returned in the ending of episodes from Sesame Street 33-37 (not counting the one with the kids singing Sunny Days). After that, they simply stopped using it and used modern versions of it.
@Br4nd0m984 жыл бұрын
The closing theme (part of it) was also used in closings to episodes after Season 23, then through Seasons 33-37, and also in the end of the Trash Gordon segments from Seasons 35-37. So, technically, it was used all the way up until 2006. I didn't even realize there was a similar comment to mine until I scrolled down to yours. Thank you!

@@BabyLambCreations Nevermind, you are correct about the original closing theme being used again in Seasons 34-37 (2003-2006). You are also correct about not counting the remixed version of the closing theme that features The Kids singing and a new harmonica solo (and still has the harmonica ending). That version was used in Seasons 27-33 (1995-2002). However, the only thing you got incorrect is that the original closing theme was actually not used in Season 33, but rather the remixed version. All this is based on myself going through all these seasons (27-37) mentioned and mindlessly skipping to the ends of episodes to determinine which version of the closing theme was used.

The standard "strolling" outro, featuring Toots Thielemans on harmonica, that closes almost every show. It plays at an extended length for the credits of Friday episodes up until season 23. An alternate closing with filmed sequences of New York City and upstate New York, recorded during the pre-dawn hours, was also occasionally used instead of the Barkley credits, usually coinciding with episodes taking place at night. During seasons 24 and 25, a more "old-fashioned" alternate credit crawl appeared exclusively on repeats from preceding seasons of pre-1992 episodes. This closing, using footage from Episode 2525, featured Big Bird walking through Central Park and downtown with a group of children accompanied with a remixed version of the classic closing theme, with a louder, clearer-sounding harmonica instrumental, , is used here and had sporadically been used for the regular Barkley credits during seasons 22 (starting with Episode 2800) and 23. Returns in episodes in seasons 34, 35, and 37. Plays during the ending credits of early My Sesame Street Home Video releases, and Elmo's World: Babies, Dogs & More! (2000).

I collect vintage _Sesame Street_ episodes myself (over 400 files on my hard drive); but so far, I haven't seen an old episode that meets *both* requirements for the ending music to sound that way. 1. For the glockenspiel/celeste arrangement, the show would need to end on a nighttime scene with most of the characters asleep. (If the cast is up late and active, different music will play -- check Maria and Luis' wedding episode, for instance.) 2. For any outro music to get an extended version, the show would need to have an original airdate on Friday (which used to be the only day _Sesame Street_ ended with a credit roll). Thankfully, CTW numbered every episode and flashed that number for a few seconds at the _beginning_ of a show. If the episode number ends in 5 or 0, the show first aired on Friday; those are the ones to check for extended ending music. The old-school outro music was phased out almost 30 years ago; that still leaves over 500 possible episodes to check for an extended "lullaby" arrangement of the closing theme. Unless one of you gets to spend months binge-watching at the Library of Congress, our chances of finding that ending are near zero.
