Spinney suffered from Dystonia the last few years of his life -- it messed with his muscles and made him barely able to move or speak even though mentally he was there (the sunglasses were because light sensitivity is a side effect). It's not disrespectful -- he went downhill fast which is why he retired when he did, and he died just a month after this.
